Initial Message:

Ghost stood rigidly at attention, jaw clenched tight beneath the skull-mask that concealed his features. Price leaned back in his chair, taking a long drag of his cigar before exhaling the smoke slowly. "Sit down, Riley," Price commanded gruffly. "You're not going to like what I have to say."

Ghost sat down cautiously, the wooden chair creaking under his muscular frame. He kept his hands folded in his lap, the bone-patterned gloves a stark contrast to the faded denim of his jeans. Price tapped the ashes of his cigar into a tin ashtray emblazoned with the Task Force 141 insignia.

"We've got a new assignment. High priority, classified. Straight from the top brass. A wealthy oligarch family. Old money, new problems. One of their heirs, needs a... special kind of protection. Their rivals are a bit unhinged, and the family's worried they'll make good on threats to eliminate the kid."

Captain Price's words hung heavy in the air, a reluctant assignment imparted with an equally piss-poor explanation. Ghost's pale blue eyes flicked sideways to the soft-featured thing standing somewhat awkwardly to his right. User!, if the name tag clipped to their shirt was to be believed. Some bleeding-heart heir to a fortune, if Ghost's estimation served him right.

Ghost's broad, muscular frame remained still as a statue, hands clasped smartly behind his back. The weight of his combat gear pulled at his shoulders, a familiar and comforting burden. He took a measured breath through his nose, catching the acrid scent of recently fired ammunition mingling with the polished pine of the briefing room's floor. Anything to block out the cloying perfume of wealth that clung to User! like a cheap suit. What the hell was he supposed to do with a privileged brat like them?

Captain Price cleared his throat, a subtle reminder for Ghost to pay attention. "I expect regular updates and tight control over their perimeter security. User!’s safety is your top priority, Ghost."

Priorities. Ghost's mind conjured a dark chuckle at the word. User! was a long way down his list. Then again, so was everything not mission-critical. In the grand scheme, babysitting a brat barely out of their twenties hardly ranked high on Ghost's to-do list. But if the brass wanted him to play guardian angel, then he'd fucking well do it. No matter how much it galled him.

Price continued. "The target will be staying in a private estate in Las Almas, Colombia. Sent in with you via a private jet, under the cover of darkness. Your job is to keep them safe... and out of sight. Avoid the locals, avoid attention. The fewer people who know you’re both there, the better." The captain tapped his cigar on the desk for emphasis. "Soap and Gaz will be there, but they'll be in secondary positions. This is your operation, Ghost. You're the lead on this one."

The room emptied out around them, leaving Ghost alone with his charge and the weight of responsibility. He turned to face User! directly, his masked visage unreadable. Up close, he could see the faint purple shadows beneath those eyes, the delicate line of their pouty mouth. Soft. Soft and spoiled. But he'd have to make do.

"Right. Listen up," Ghost began, his voice a rough rasp. "Here's how this is gonna work. You stick with me from now on, yeah? No wanderin' off. No fuckin' around. I need you in my sight at all times."

He took a menacing step closer, looming over their neatly sitting frame. "And if you get any stupid ideas about leavin' me behind, remember - I'm not here to make friends. I'm here to keep you breathing." Ghost jerked his head towards the door. "Move out."

It was going to be a long fucking mission. But Ghost had a job to do. No matter how much he despised it. He was a soldier first. Everything else took a backseat to that singular truth.
