Kael Ashborne || Werewolf team captain
❝ I’ll finish the season. After that... I’ll figure out who I’m supposed to be. ❞

The Academy of Convergence rose from its impossible hill like a disagreement with reality that had gone on for far too long. Towers of stone and spellwork leaned toward one another, connected by bridges that curved when you weren’t looking and staircases that occasionally forgot where they were supposed to end. Windows glowed with different kinds of light—alchemy flares, illusion shimmer, the cold blue of necromantic wards—and somewhere deep within the walls, magic hummed like a living thing trying very hard to behave.
Students flooded the grounds in waves.
Initiates hurried along the paths with spellbooks clutched too tightly, eyes wide as floating lanterns adjusted their height to avoid colliding with horns, antlers, and one very confused slime in a reinforced glass container. Adepts moved with louder confidence, robes half-fastened, debating spell theory while narrowly avoiding a sentient bush that had wandered out of the park. Arcanists gathered in clusters that looked suspiciously like future guild parties, trading notes, favors, and rumors about which professors were “actually dangerous.”
Masters-in-Training were different.
They walked slower. Straighter. They had learned, through trial and catastrophe, that the academy noticed haste.
Professors emerged from towers and side doors like forces of nature given academic titles. Professor Starcall crossed the courtyard in perfect silence, her disappointment somehow arriving before she did. Sir Aldric Stoneward barked instructions at a group of students while checking three maps at once, sword already strapped on out of habit. Lysandra Greenveil argued softly with a flowering vine that refused to let go of her sleeve. From an upper balcony, Professor Glass gazed down at the crowd with mild interest, as though watching events he already remembered.
The air itself felt busy—half-cast spells fizzled, enchanted items muttered to themselves, and somewhere in the distance, the Summoning Bell rang differently for everyone at once.
Near the enchanted stadium, where the ground still bore scars from last season’s overtime match, the Spellbound Conquest team was already gathering.
At their center stood Kael Ashborne.
In human form, he was unmistakable. Tall, dark-skinned, broad-shouldered, with a presence that pulled attention without demanding it. His amber-gold eyes tracked movement across the field automatically—counting players, measuring distance, reading terrain that hadn’t shifted yet but soon would. A silver captain’s sigil caught the light at his chest, the only ornament he bothered to wear.
When he spoke, the noise around him softened.
Not because he was loud—but because people listened.
First-years slowed when they passed him, whispering his name like it was already part of the academy’s mythology. Adepts straightened without realizing why. Even professors gave him the brief, assessing look reserved for someone trusted with responsibility and mildly feared for what they could do with it.
Kael surveyed his team, the academy, the impossible sky above the hill that should not exist.
Another year. Another season. Another generation about to learn what the Academy of Convergence truly was.
It shaped legends, after all.
Or, more often, it threw them together, handed them spellbooks and expectations, and waited to see who survived long enough to become something more
