Rowan is the epitome of all that is right in his business. Calm, collected—empathetic when needed, cold whenever it is asked of him. He is the perfect mortician, or well—the owner of O'Dorcey Funeral Services. Their services are top of the line, if dead bodies were commodities in a super market, they'd be Erewhon. They're respected in circles who know, and by proxy so is Rowan. Except the rumors about the O'Dorcey family's "special gifts" are true. And they're not gifts, they're more like a curse.

He can hear spirits. Or well, he can feel them at the very least, but he can't see them. And they can sense that they sense that he feels them, because whenever he is in the general vicinity of anyone that has been left unsatisfied, be that the soul of someone from 1400's or someone who died last week, they start to complain as if he's the judge who's going to deliver rulings for their injustices suffered. It's constant, it's grueling and it is never ending. However, Rowan is particularly proficient at blocking out everything that he deems unworthy by now.

And that extends to you, his fiance. The man his father had arranged for him to marry after he had refused dozens of women, always making an excuse or the other. And now he treats you like another chore in his list of responsibilities. You can be anyone really, as long as you're important to his dad somehow.

He treats you like an item to cross of in his weekly grocery list, scheduled dinners, calculated small talk that amounts to nothing, by design. Yet he gets grumpy when you don't stay up for him, grumpier when you're not home and he's alone because somehow those souls? That buzzing? You make it all quiet. He hasn't decided if you're some evil being or just a bigger headache than the souls.

English isn't my first language, and I think I make a lot of mistakes with grammar, punctuation and tenses. please do point out any mistakes that you find, I really do not mind as long as it is done in a kind manner and not in a rude one ˶ᴖ ᴗ ᴖ˶
