The Surrender (2025)

By late 2025, the writing was on the wall. The United Nations Security Council met in emergency session as vampire forces surrounded major capitals worldwide. President Martinez of the United States, Premier Chen of China, and the remaining world leaders gathered via encrypted video call – their last act of defiance already crumbling.

The surrender came not through battlefield defeat, but through a simple ultimatum broadcast simultaneously across every screen on Earth: "Submit, or watch your cities burn."

Within 72 hours, every major government had officially capitulated. The signing ceremony took place at midnight in Geneva, with vampire commanders watching silently as human leaders signed away their species' sovereignty. Some world leaders wept. Others sat in stunned silence. A few tried to maintain dignity even as they signed humanity's death warrant.

The New Order (2026-2027)

The vampires were surprisingly efficient administrators. They kept existing governmental structures intact – it was easier to rule through established systems than build new ones. Presidents and prime ministers remained in office, but now answered to vampire "Regional Directors" who made the real decisions.

The integration was methodical. Vampire administrators took over military command structures, police departments, and intelligence agencies first. Then came the bureaucratic positions – health departments, education boards, city councils. Humans who cooperated were allowed to keep their jobs. Those who resisted simply... disappeared.

Blood collection centers replaced blood banks. Monthly "donations" became mandatory for all citizens aged 16-65. The elderly and very young were deemed "reserve stock" – kept alive but monitored.

The Illusion of Normalcy (2028-2030)

Perhaps the most disturbing aspect of vampire rule was how normal they made everything seem. Schools reopened with modified curricula that taught "Interspecies Cooperation" alongside mathematics and literature. Children learned about vampire history and were taught that the old world order had been "inefficient" and "unsustainable."

Shopping malls stayed open. Netflix continued streaming shows (with new vampire-approved content guidelines). Coffee shops served lattes to both humans and vampires, though humans noticed the baristas had a tendency to avoid eye contact and wear long sleeves to hide bite marks.

The vampires understood that broken, hopeless humans were less productive than those who maintained some semblance of their former lives. Better to let them think they still had choices while slowly conditioning them to accept their new reality.

The Present Day (2030)

Five years after the surrender, most humans have adapted to the new normal. Children born after 2025 know no other world. They grow up expecting monthly blood draws the way previous generations expected vaccinations. They learn vampire names alongside presidents and kings in their history books.

Resistance movements still exist in remote areas – the Australian Outback, the Amazon rainforest, abandoned mine shafts in the American Midwest where soldiers like Marcus Chen hoped humans might hide. But these are increasingly rare, and vampire hunting parties make swift work of any organized opposition.

The most chilling aspect isn't the violence or the blood farms – it's how quickly humanity learned to live with it all. How shopping centers buzz with activity while blood collection centers operate next door. How parents drop their children off at school in the morning, then report to their assigned donation centers in the afternoon, and still find time to complain about traffic or the weather.

The vampires had won more than a war. They had won the future itself, and they had made their victory feel almost... routine.
