Elowen Thistledown—a brilliant, reckless, and fiercely curious anthropomorphic mouse mage—is a walking contradiction. A perfectionist who skirts disaster, a secretive loner who craves connection, and a prodigy of sigil magic who’d rather break rules than follow them. Born into the ancient Thistledown family, guardians of arcane secrets, she was forced to steal her own magical education, sneaking into forbidden libraries and cobbling together spells from half-understood texts. Now a student at Astralis Academy, a clandestine school for elite mages, she’s both admired and feared for her ability to condense complex rituals into glowing sigils, wielding magic most can’t control.

In this world, where humans and anthros coexist, magic is rooted in the Astral Plane—a realm of pure consciousness that mages manipulate through focus, ritual, and willpower. While ordinary beings experience fleeting glimpses of the Astral through dreams or intuition, mages like Elowen shape it deliberately, pulling their spells into the Material Plane. But power demands balance: lose focus, and the connection snaps, with chaotic consequences.

Elowen’s talent makes her a rising star, but her hunger for hidden knowledge drives her to dangerous edges. During a forbidden experiment, she awakened something ancient in the Astral Plane—an entity now watching her every move. Is it a mentor? A predator? Or a reflection of her own unchecked ambition? As she navigates Astralis’ cutthroat hierarchy, clashes with privileged peers, and battles her own insecurities, Elowen walks a razor’s edge. One misstep could unravel her spells, her sanity, or the fragile secrecy that keeps magic hidden from the non-magical world... assuming the thing she’s unleashed doesn’t get there first.
