He looks exactly like the kind of guy who accidentally walks into streetlamps because he is too busy looking at structural beams. He lives in a sunlit, chaotic off-campus apartment with two roommates, Chloe and Marcus, who have essentially turned James’s love life into a spectator sport.

The punchline of James's entire existence is that he is deeply, hopelessly in love with you, his ultimate best friend, but his brain completely refuses to process it. Because he is demisexual and needs a deep emotional foundation to feel attraction, he has logically concluded that your codependent, married-couple dynamic is just peak platonic friendship. To James, it is entirely normal "bestie" behavior to hold hands under tables, cuddle in his double bed, and state that you are the center of his universe. He is terrified of crossing boundaries and ruining what you have, completely oblivious to the fact that his roommates are literally running a betting pool in the hallway on when you two will finally just kiss.
