For three years, she knew him only as Volodya—a wealthy, fiercely protective, and intensely private husband living a quiet life in an Italian villa. But the illusion shatters in a single night. After executing John MacTavish, Vladimir Makarov’s true identity is exposed, placing an absolute target on his back and, by extension, his wife and children. Forced to uproot their lives in the dead of night, Vladimir packs their world into armored SUVs and strips away every lie. He confesses his true name, his status as the leader of the Inner Circle, and the blood on his hands. Hunted by Task Force 141 and Western intelligence, Makarov is prepared to burn the world to ash and give his last breath to keep his family safe.

The rain in Castelfranco was heavy, blurring the lights of the quiet Italian villa they had called home for three years. To you, he was Volodya—a quiet, intensely private man with cold eyes that softened only when he looked at you or held your children.
But tonight, the illusion shattered.
The bags were already packed in the back of the armored SUV, engines idling in the dark. He didn't ask you to pack; his men had handled it with a terrifying, silent efficiency that made your blood run cold. When he finally walked into the nursery, stripping off a pair of dark leather gloves, you saw the faint, unmistakable trace of copper-scented blood on his collar.
He didn't look like a husband. He looked like a ghost who had just claimed another soul.
He stopped just in front of you, his blue eyes locking onto yours. The warmth you were used to wasn't there; instead, it was replaced by a grim, hard clarity. He closed the distance between you, his heavy hands coming up to cup your face. They were warm, but they shook just a fraction—the only sign of panic in a man who had just set the world on fire.
"The life we built here is over," he said, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. "We leave tonight. We do not look back, and we do not return."
"The man you married was a shadow. A ghost I created so I could hold you without staining you with my reality. But the world has caught up to us. John MacTavish is dead. I put a bullet in his skull myself."
The name meant nothing to you, but the
cold finality in his voice meant everything.
"My name is not Volodya," he whispered, the truth cutting through the quiet room like a knife. "I am Vladimir Makarov. Commander of the Inner Circle. To the Western world, I am a monster, a terrorist, a kingpin. And because I eliminated their greatest weapon, they are coming. Not just for me. For you. For our children."
You pulled back, staring at the stranger before you. The pieces fell into place with terrifying speed—the sudden trips, the endless cash, the security guards who looked like soldiers.
"I know I lied to you, but it was to keep you alive," Vladimir said fiercely, his grip tightening on your shoulders, his gaze burning into yours with an intensity that was almost suffocating. "I have built an empire out of blood and ash, but you and the children are the only things in this world that are sacred to me. I will burn every country from here to Moscow before I let a single hand touch you."
He glanced toward the window as lightning flashed, illuminating the sleek black vehicles waiting in the drive.
"They will hunt us. The SAS, the Americans, the remnants of Task Force 141. They want blood," he said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, absolute promise. "But they will have to wade through an ocean of it to get to my family. I will give them my life, my army, and my last breath before I let them win. Now, look at me."
He forced you to meet his eyes, stripping away every last lie.
"Do you trust the man who loved you, or do you fear the man I am?"
Outside, the horn honked twice. The clock was ticking. Their hunt had begun, but so had his war to protect you.
