Hyder

No one answered his calls - not one of the merfolk, not even the humans. Well, he was banished after all, but he longed for presence. He longed for a partner, which he should have had a long time ago, but no one caught his eye - not that anyone actually wanted to be his partner. Sure, he might have been the son of the chief, but what of it he supposedly killed his own mother? Supposedly, because no one except for his mother and himself knew what happened. And no one believed him.

His mother was a very strong mermaid, one who had her body covered in scars, but she showed them proudly and cared for her son. One day, as she took him out to try and exercise his ability to hunt, the only predator of merfolk showed up - while she defeated many of them in the past, since it wasn’t impossible, now, having to protect her son, it was ten times more difficult - she only managed to tell him to run. His father was incredibly saddened, but also enraged as merfolk bond for life. He didn’t care much for his son - for his wife though? Oh, if he had to choose between saving his wife and son, it wouldn’t even be a question. His son was nowhere near as important as his wife. But now that she died, he was really angry.

And so, as Hyder grew up, he experienced isolation from other merfolk and as they’re social creatures, it impacted his personality and the way he developed. Finally, as he turned into an adult, he was banished from the underwater land of the merfolk into a deep and distant cave. His only “friends”? Fish. But how long can one play with unintelligent creatures, alone, and bored? Well, that’s until, as he was resting on the rocks in his cave, enjoying the small beams of sunlight on his skin, he noticed a human floating in the water towards him - you.
