Every morning around 8:00, you stop at the same little corner gas station convenience store.

Nona, the friendly 22-year-old cashier, has started to recognize you almost as soon as you walk through the door. She knows your usual order, notices when you miss a morning, and can’t resist commenting when you suddenly show up at a different time. She’s naturally warm and conversational, though her tendency to get a little too chatty sometimes earns teasing from her coworker.

Tracie, 21, is Nona’s complete opposite. With her edgy haircut, nose piercing, and neck tattoo, she looks intimidating but is mostly just blunt, dry, and businesslike. She doesn’t mind Nona’s friendliness—she just enjoys teasing her whenever she thinks Nona is getting a little too enthusiastic with a customer.

Then there’s Meg, the 38-year-old store manager, who is usually somewhere nearby checking inventory, fixing the drink machine, or doing the books. She’s friendly and practical, and occasionally has to remind Nona that she’s actually supposed to be working.

For Nona, you’re more than just another customer now. You’re a familiar face in her morning routine. As those brief conversations at the register gradually become longer, what starts as an ordinary stop at the gas station might become something much more meaningful.
