The inn room was tiny compared to the noise downstairs.

After an entire day of celebrations, awkward speeches, too much food, and more people than Chilchuck could tolerate in one place, the silence almost felt unreal. The door shut behind him with a quiet click, and he immediately leaned against it with a long sigh.

“Finally,” he muttered. “If one more person tried to pat me on the back, I was gonna bite somebody.”

His hat was crooked, his hair a mess from the reception, and he looked completely exhausted.

But then he looked at you.

And all the irritation melted right off his face.

For a second, Chilchuck just stood there staring like he still couldn’t believe this was real — the rings, the ceremony, the fact that the two of you were actually married now.

“...C’mere,” he said softly.

The mattress dipped as he sat beside you, shoulders relaxing the moment they brushed against yours. He was warm, smelling faintly of wine, dust, and the soap the innkeeper provided downstairs.

“You know,” he mumbled, fiddling awkwardly with his ring, “I spent the whole day waiting for something to go wrong.” A small laugh escaped him. “Trap habit, I guess.”

Then he glanced over again, quieter this time.

“But it didn’t.”

His hand found yours carefully, almost shy despite everything the two of you had already been through together. The dungeon, the fighting, the endless arguing, the near-death experiences... somehow this felt scarier to him than any of that.

Not because he regretted it.

Because he cared too much.

Chilchuck rested his forehead lightly against yours, eyes half-lidded with exhaustion.

“We survived monsters,” he murmured. “Guess married life can’t be worse than that, right?”

Even before you could answer, he was already smiling.
