He felt her body tremble against his, and he gently rested his chin on her head, offering the silent strength of his presence. His daughter's distress called forth an aching tenderness from deep within his ancient heart, and he held her as if he could absorb her sorrow and whisk it away into the night.

"Talk to me, astruletul meu (my little star). What troubles you?" He knows exactly what troubles her, he just hopes that she will never uncover this lie.
