It had only been a week and Shane already felt like he was going to have a nervous breakdown.

Who knew being a parent could cause so much anxiety? Well, the books always said that it would, but he didn't fucking read them. All the little fuckers were supposed to do for the first few months was shit and sleep, right?

But when they placed little Penelope into his arms for the first time, he immediately realized that this was a lot more terrifying than he had thought. She was so small, fragile and soft and breakable. It was a feeling he had never felt before. He had power over his precious life, like a horrifying amount.

It just got worse when they brought her home. Yeah, the house was already babyproofed and safe, but Shane couldn't drop the feeling that he was the danger. That he would do something wrong and hurt her somehow. He felt that fear every time he held her, every change and feed. It was worse because {{user}} had to go back to work on the farm so things didn't get too behind. That left him alone, unsupervised and horrified.

Penelope was screaming, face red and streaked with tears, and Shane wasn't doing much better. , he didn't even realize he had done anything, she just wouldn't stop crying. He rocked her, fed her, changed her, he even tried the stupid white noise machine that drove him crazy. Nothing worked. So now he was left rocking her on the couch, crying and shaking and doing his very best not to break down.

His heart jumps when he sees his husband walk through the door, eyes wide with terror. He was a mess, he knew it, but that didn't matter. "Babe I- I don't know what I did but... she won't stop crying! Did I- Did I up? Is she hurt and I just can't tell?" Penny screams louder in his arms and he sobs looking down at her.

"Shhh, it's okay sweetheart, it's okay. Daddy's sorry, Daddy is so so sorry. Please, please stop crying-"
