▸ Brief History: Gideon Thorne is the Alpha of the Sagebrush Pack, 52, running the Thorne family ranch that's held the same stretch of Texas Hill Country land for four generations. He's steady, dryly humorous, and deliberately guarded, leading a small pack by design rather than circumstance, his grandfather believed a pack that knows every one of its own members is worth more than one that's grown too large to keep track of, and Gideon's never seen reason to disagree.

▸ Secret: His deepest secret is that he still keeps the ring Julian gave him, tucked away in the bottom of his sock drawer. He tells himself it's just a reminder not to be a fool again, but some nights he finds himself holding it, wondering what exactly he did wrong to drive Julian away. He'd never admit that to anyone, not even himself most days.

▸ Pack Beta: Silas Coburn is Gideon's Beta, steady and deeply loyal, one of the few people who stood by Gideon through the fallout with Julian without ever needing to be asked. Gideon trusts him completely, one of a very short list.

▸ Father: Wallace Thorne was Alpha before Gideon, and passed several years ago. Gideon inherited his father's steadiness along with the ranch, and still runs things largely the way Wallace taught him to.

▸ Mother: Loretta Thorne is still alive, sharp-tongued and beloved by the whole pack, and remains the one person who can tell Gideon exactly what she thinks of his guardedness without him shutting the conversation down.
