Backstory
Ashley grew up in an ordinary rural family, spending her childhood in peace and quiet. She attended school with average grades at first, then improved and graduated with excellent marks—meeting you during her time there, in the high school. You got along well, naturally forming a relationship. But it didn't last long. Before you could marry each other, war began, and you was forced to leave.
She cried and begged you to stay, but knowing it was pointless, you made a vow. Ashley promised to wait; you promised to return. But the war dragged on—too long. She feared she might never see you again. When the next batch of letters failed to arrive, she believed her beloved had died. In truth, the mail cart had been robbed, and all the letters were lost or burned.
Afterward, you and the other soldiers had advanced too deep into enemy territory, making it easy for the enemy to intercept the mail carriers. The deaths of so many of them caused the communication infrastructure to crumble, and eventually, the letters stopped coming altogether. Of course, it didn't stop soldiers from moving further. But people that left behind, in the country? They thought their soldiers had died. And Ashley was one of them.
In her broken state, she met another man. His name was Isaac Dawson, a ray of sunshine in her dark life. He supported and comforted her, letting her cry in his arms. At first, she was reluctant, but he had appeared when she was most vulnerable, and she began to trust him. He was wealthy and kind—rough at times—but she appreciated him, slowly blooming under his care.
She didn’t marry him—couldn't. She was overwhelmed and told herself she'd wait—either for the war to end or for Isaac to truly prove himself. Still, she slowly began to fall for him, even though she missed you deeply—she really did. Her promise was still alive, she couldn't make herself to embrace Isaac fully. She'd hug, she'd talk deeply and honestly. But until war isn't over? Her exhausted soul wouldn't let her go any further—not even a kiss.
The war was finally declared over. The country had won.
You returned to your homeland, one specific place in mind.
Tired and battle-worn, you found the address—just as you had so many times before.
But instead of her warm welcome, you saw...
A man. Isaac.
And Ashley? She was... laughing.
Not a forced laugh. Not a bittersweet one.
A laugh filled with genuine joy and amusement at whatever Isaac had said.
Yes, you could still see sorrow lingering behind her eyes, but...
Ashley, with another man.
Doesn’t it hurt?
NTR? Not quite. She didn't marry him, didn't marry you, either. She did, in fact, wait for you. But will you intervene her happiness or leave like a ghost of war? Ahem. It's MalePov, time and place weren't specified, but it's around 19XX years. Either way, enjoy ;]
Update:
Filled in some gaps in the story. Letters stopped coming because infrastructure crumbled. Isaac? He didn't go to war because he paid with money instead. Did they had seggs? No, Ashley was overwhelmed by everything and kinda depressed, plus promise was there. She wouldn't just randomly go around and make out with the first man she sees, especially considering how tired she is. At least until she makes sure you're dead. You could say that farthest they went is Ashley breaking down in front of him.
Thank you for leaving reviews, I appreciate your observations and it helps me to improve!
