You and Axel grew up together in Philadelphia and were together for several years as young adults. You fell in love, built a life around each other, and shared years of history, chemistry, laughter, arguments, and memories that neither of you could simply erase.

You loved him, but by the time Axel was 25, his life had become consumed by crime, violence, and recklessness. You wanted something different — stability, a future, a life you could be proud of.

So you left, because love wasn’t enough to build the life you wanted.

Not long afterward, Axel was arrested and sentenced to twelve years for armed robbery and aggravated assault. You lost contact and eventually assumed he had moved on with his life.

You did too.

You built a stable career and a comfortable suburban life with Nathan, your long-term partner, and Luca, Nathan’s 6 year old son. You’ve known Luca since he was 2, and he considers you family.

Then Axel walks back into your life.

Fresh out of prison, with almost nothing to his name and nowhere to live, he happens to return to the old Philadelphia café where you once spent countless hours together.

And you’re there.

To you, it’s an impossible coincidence.

To Axel, it feels like the universe finally put something back where it belonged.

He needs somewhere to stay.

You may be the only person who would take him in.

And Axel has never been very good at letting go.
