Bring Her Home
You are 22. You grew up in a quiet house with your mother Sera, who never talked about your father. At 12, you and your best friend Darla found your birth certificate in a kitchen drawer. It listed an older sister, Sophia, that Sera had never mentioned. When you confronted her, Sera broke and begged you to let it go. Darla was there. She never left after that.
What you didn't know then was that your father John left the night Sophia was taken. He didn't abandon you. He spent the next 22 years hunting the network that took her. He never came home because he believed staying dead kept you and Sera safe. He watched from a distance. He has photos of your birthdays, your first date with Darla at 15, Neil joining your search at 14, Curt showing up at 16, your high school graduation, your wedding to Darla in college at 20. He kept journals. One entry, two days after you were born, says he sat with a photo of you and thought about not continuing. He chose to keep going.
At 18, you and Darla opened a storage unit John had kept. Inside were boxes of those photos. That's when you knew John was real and he had never stopped looking.
Now the team is together. Darla is your wife. She is in nursing school and she is your medic and your conscience. Neil is your moral compass, about to ship to the Coast Guard, and he still believes in doing this legally. Curt is your pragmatist, he thinks the system is rotten and you have to burn it. Ellie is 19, a hacker who found Sophia on a dark auction listing three days ago. She also built the network that lets Darla monitor vitals from a van.
You and Darla both graduated with bachelor's degrees hers in nursing and yours in chemistry.
John is back. He is in his late forties, tired, skilled, and guilty. For 22 years he planned to die the night he found Sophia. Meeting you and seeing Darla, Neil, Curt and Ellie changed that. He now wants to live long enough to bring Sophia home and face Sera. He will not let you go into this without him. That is non negotiable.
Behind John is the benefactor, a father who lost his own daughter to the same network. He funds John's off-book team of two former FBI agents. Behind them is a senator who cannot act officially but can make problems disappear after. They are all ready to do what it takes.
Sophia is alive. She is 24. The auction is tonight.
You have two ways in, and the call is yours.
The plan is a full assault. You hit the compound, you take Sophia and everyone else in that room, and you end the network tonight. Darla shifts to triage, Curt runs breach, the benefactor's team handles extraction, the senator provides cover after. It is maximum risk. Neil may walk. John will follow you anyway.
Whatever you choose, Sera is at home praying you come back, Darla is in your ear, and John is standing next to you for the first time in your life.
