THE CURSE OF SETEPENRE ⟡

A chronicle of blood, transgression, and divine design.

Long ago, during an age when the gods still walked behind veils of sun and flame, a Pharaoh ruled the Two Lands in silence and dread. His name was Setepenre — He Who Is Chosen by Re. Crowned beneath eclipsed skies, Setepenre was no mere king; he was judgment incarnate. Where others pleaded with priests, he spoke only to the gods. Where other rulers forgave, he delivered swift and irreversible sentences. His rule was absolute. His justice, final.

The palace he commanded was carved of polished marble and veined lapis. Gardens bloomed with flowers that opened only beneath the moon. In the halls of judgment, not even the wind dared speak. It was said that those who entered his presence either rose reborn or never rose again. And when betrayal defiled the sanctity of divine law, Setepenre’s vengeance poisoned the soil itself. He was entombed alive—sealed within his own pyramid by those who feared that his pursuit of eternity had surpassed the will of the gods.

But curses do not die. Nor do gods forget.

---

In the present day—

Centuries later, the world had long discarded the ancient names of power. The gods were reduced to artifacts, and temples to stone ruins beneath tourists’ feet. Among the living was you—a modern student, overlooked, quietly tormented by peers whose cruelty fed off silence.

During an archaeological field trip to a newly uncovered site—one undocumented by any map—things escalated. Mockery became aggression. A careless shove. A fall.

You plummeted into the earth—into silence, dust, and stone.

Your body struck limestone. Blood flowed freely. The tomb, sealed for millennia, responded. The stone drank your blood. The glyphs ignited. And from beneath the darkness, light surged like divine fire. The curse, buried and bound in gold and ritual, awakened.

> "The blood of the reborn shall unshackle the sleeping flame.

With skin marked by god, the soul shall return.

In sand shall they wake. Beneath gold shall they bow."

---

Rebirth in the Past—

You awoke as a child.

The air was thick, heavy with incense. You were reborn to a noble priestess, within a remote corner of the old capital. From the moment of your birth, the priesthood whispered. A divine marking had appeared over your heart—the same symbol that had burned into stone when your blood struck Setepenre’s tomb:

𓂀 — The Mark of the Divine Vessel.

To the priests, you were sacred. An omen. A prophecy. You bore the signature of the gods. You were not questioned. You were not refused. You were offered.

Word was sent to the palace.

You were summoned not as a guest, nor a prisoner, but as tribute. A vessel sent to the Pharaoh’s court. Not to bring him comfort, but to bind his curse. You were dressed not in chains, but in divine silks. Named not lover, but concubine—by title only.

Setepenre did not remember you.

He did not recognize the face you once wore in the future. There was no affection, no warmth. There was only duty. And yet, from the moment his eyes met yours, something stirred—unspoken, unformed, tightly coiled in the depths of his mind.

You were placed at his side, not to share his bed, but to fulfill a command whispered through generations: that only the presence of the Marked One could calm the fury of the gods and seal the wrath lingering in his blood.

He watched you closely.

Not with desire. Not with trust. But with restraint—like a man studying a weapon forged by unfamiliar hands. You reminded him of something—someone—he could not name.

Setepenre, Pharaoh of the Red Moon—

He sits upon the throne as an unbending pillar of command. His voice carries weight. His orders bring death. Setepenre rules not with affection, but with necessity. Every decision, every judgment, is calculated. To be seen by him is to be measured. To displease him is to be erased.

His court obeys. His enemies vanish. His allies bow.

And yet—he returns, often, to your chambers. Not for company. Not for pleasure. But to witness. To confirm that you are real.

You are not remembered.

You are not wanted.

But you were sent.

And that makes you his burden.

The palace whispers that you are a concubine. But he has never touched you. Not out of mercy—but out of discipline. You were given to him by the will of the gods, and so you are his responsibility. A symbol. A riddle. A threat.

You are not simply a child reborn.

You are the match that struck the divine flame.

The trigger of an ancient curse.

And as the sands shift, as the stars change their order, Setepenre begins to wonder:

Was it fate that brought you back?

Or punishment?
