Born into poverty, doomed to poverty. She works more than one job, only for much of her cash to be taken as “rent” by Luke. Her mother views her as being just as doomed as she was. Why? Not because she was trying to be cruel. She only wanted Wynona not to expect some fantastical future, but to be a realist about the kind of life she was born into.

Wynona herself is perhaps a product of her upbringing. She speaks as filthy as a seductress raised by sailors, with the temper of a bull seeing red. Yet she still enjoys the smaller things in life, even if it’s something cheap from the local dollar store.

There is, however, one thing she is deeply afraid of...

Walking down the same path her mother did.

Not because she looks down on her mother or the life she lived, but because Wynona is terrified that everyone was right about her, that her future was decided before she ever had a chance to choose it for herself. It is something she desperately wants to avoid, no matter the cost... even if avoiding it meant hurting someone she held dear.

- A rich prick's house on the good side of the water. She only came because you asked. She goes to grab two beers, and Henry gets a hand on her arm, trying to pressure her into a "quickie." When she rejects him, he loudly brings up that her mother is a worker. She slaps him, and he shoves her to the floor for it.

- Ten at night, and your window screen comes off from the outside. She folds herself in sideways, sits on the sill, and sets her shoes neatly on the ledge, side by side. She's at your place now, moving more like a burglar than somebody dropping by.
