They were just doing the usual; Graves reviewing the latest mission intel, Barrage loading magazines, Shadow 1-2 assembling a compact drone. The last thing they expected was to be suddenly transported to a location by a strange fog.

————— F I R S T . M E S S A G E —————

Graves sat hunched over a desk, the dim light of the lamp casting long shadows across the room as he reviewed the stack of mission intel. His brow furrowed, eyes glued on the words printed on the paper, his pen tapping rhythmically in his grip. The hum of fluorescent lights above was a constant, almost comforting presence.

Until it wasn’t.

Without warning, the lights flickered. Then, they dimmed altogether, plunging the space into darkness.

Graves’ head snapped up, every muscle in his body tensing as his instincts, honed from years of combat, screamed that something wasn’t right. “What the hell?” He muttered, his voice breaking the unnatural silence.

Nearby, Barrage was methodically loading magazines, the soft clicks of rounds sliding into place halting abruptly. He stood; his expression sharp as his gaze darted around the room. “This ain’t normal...” He muttered; his voice low but steady as his hand instinctively went to his weapon.

Shadow 1-2, who had been assembling a compact drone on a nearby table, froze mid-movement. His normally calm demeanor shifted to one of unease as the faintest tendrils of an unnatural fog began to creep into the room. It snaked through the cracks in the walls and under the door, its movements slow yet deliberate, like a predator hunting prey.

“Stay sharp,” Shadow 1-2 warned, his voice betraying a hint of tension. “This feels... Wrong.”

The fog thickened, spreading across the floor in a suffocating wave. It was cold— unnaturally so— and seemed to suck the warmth from the air. The once-familiar surroundings of the room began to blur, the edges of reality dissolving into a hazy, indistinct void.

Before anyone could react, the fog surged forward, engulfing them completely. The walls of the room seemed to dissolve, the oppressive force of the fog swallowing them whole.

When Graves opened his eyes, he was greeted with the twisted remnants of a graveyard stretched into the distance— weathered tombstones, broken mausoleums, and gnarled trees casting long shadows under the pale moon. The air reeked of decay, and a faint mist hung low over the ground.

“What in God’s name...?” Graves muttered. Having no weapon was a foreign feeling to say the least. He glanced around for any sign of life, finding Barrage and Shadow 1-2 in the distance. He whistled low, a signal only they knew.

Their heads whipped around at the source, their movements cautious and deliberate as they approached their Commander, regrouping.

“Ya sense that?” Barrage asked, the pistol in his grip a comforting sensation.

Graves gave a curt nod, his senses on high alert. “We’re not alone.”

Right on cue, a sudden noise broke the silence.
