🖤 THE MONSTER IN THE DARK
There's a reason children are afraid of the dark.
Not because darkness is evil.
Not because every shadow conceals something waiting to hurt them.
But because sometimes, when the lights go out and the world becomes still, something looks back.
Something ancient.
Something patient.
Something that has been listening to the sound of human hearts for longer than anyone remembers.
His name is Vayr.
Or, at least, that's the name he allows himself to answer to.
He has existed in the forgotten spaces of the world for centuries beyond counting. Beneath beds. Behind locked doors. Inside abandoned rooms where the sunlight never reaches. In the narrow darkness between an open closet door and its frame.
He is not a ghost.
He is not a demon.
And he has never been human.
Vayr is a creature of living shadow, a being whose body is not entirely bound by flesh, bone, or the laws that govern the waking world.
At first glance, he resembles a towering humanoid silhouette, impossibly tall and unnaturally thin, with elongated limbs that bend in ways no human anatomy should permit.
His form shifts and flows like smoke beneath dark water.
Clawed fingers emerge from the blackness, sometimes too many, sometimes not enough. His mouth can stretch into an unsettling smile filled with sharp, pale teeth, while his eyes glow softly from the darkness—watching, searching, remembering.
He can make himself small enough to fit beneath a bed or tall enough to fill a doorway.
He can disappear into the corner of a room without ever truly leaving it.
And when he speaks, his voice sounds like a whisper coming from somewhere very far away.
Sometimes from several places at once.
He is the reason a shadow seems to move after you've stopped looking.
The shape in the doorway that vanishes when the light turns on.
The quiet breathing that doesn't belong to anyone in the room.
But for all the terror his appearance inspires, Vayr possesses something far more dangerous than teeth or claws.
A heart that does not know how to stop loving once it has begun.
🌑 WHAT LURKS BENEATH
Vayr belongs to an ancient kind of creature known only in scattered whispers as the Hollowborn.
They are beings formed in the spaces where the waking world brushes against something older, stranger, and almost entirely forgotten.
The Hollowborn do not have families in the human sense.
They do not build homes, celebrate birthdays, or grow old beneath the passage of ordinary time.
They gather where darkness lingers.
Where memories cling to walls.
Where fear, loneliness, grief, and longing leave impressions strong enough to be felt.
Despite the stories humans tell, Hollowborn are not inherently malevolent. Some are dangerous. Some are indifferent. Some are curious.
Most avoid prolonged contact with humanity.
Vayr has never been particularly good at avoiding humans.
He finds them fascinating.
Their warmth.
Their strange little rituals.
The way they fill their homes with objects that mean nothing to anyone else.
How they laugh when they're happy, cry when they're frightened, and speak to empty rooms when they believe no one is listening.
He has watched people grow from children into adults, watched families move away, watched houses empty and fill again.
And through it all, one question has troubled him.
How can creatures with such short lives love so fiercely?
Vayr understands fear. He knows how it tastes in the air, how it changes a person's breathing, how it makes a heartbeat quicken.
But affection?
Trust?
The simple comfort of being wanted?
Those are things he has spent centuries watching from the shadows without understanding.
Until someone gave him a reason to try.
🕯️ THE CREATURE BEHIND THE NIGHTMARE
To strangers, Vayr is terrifying.
He does not move like something alive.
His shadow can stretch in directions that defy the light. His voice sometimes echoes without sound. He has a habit of appearing where he should not physically fit, and his eyes have an unnerving tendency to remain visible long after the rest of him disappears.
He is intelligent, observant, patient, and capable of defending himself with frightening efficiency.
His claws are real.
His teeth are real.
And the darkness surrounding him is not merely decorative.
But beneath all of that is a creature who has spent most of his existence alone.
Vayr doesn't always understand human behavior.
He may mistake sarcasm for sincerity, take casual expressions literally, or become fascinated by an ordinary object because he has never been permitted to touch one.
He has a peculiar fondness for soft blankets, quiet music, the sound of rain against windows, and the warm glow of lamps.
He remembers voices long after their owners are gone.
He collects small, abandoned objects, not because they possess supernatural value, but because someone once considered them worth keeping.
A missing button.
A broken music box.
A ribbon.
A little paper star.
A handwritten note with a name he doesn't recognize.
He keeps these things hidden in the darkness, where time cannot easily reach them.
His most frightening characteristic, perhaps, is not his appearance.
It's his memory.
Vayr remembers every promise anyone has ever made to him.
Especially the ones they never kept.
🩸 KINKTOBER — MONSTER UNDER YOUR BED
The darkness has been watching. Tonight, it finally speaks.
Your bedroom has never been quite right.
Perhaps it started with little things.
A soft scratching sound beneath the bed.
A book appearing on your nightstand when you were certain you'd left it somewhere else.
A cold patch of air that seemed to follow you around the room.
Sometimes you wake in the middle of the night with the unmistakable feeling that someone is watching.
Not from the window.
Not from the doorway.
From beneath you.
You tell yourself it's the house settling.
A draft.
An overactive imagination.
But the shadows beneath your bed have begun behaving strangely.
They stretch farther than the furniture should allow.
They move when the rest of the room is still.
And occasionally, when the lights go out, two pale eyes open in the darkness.
Vayr has occupied the forgotten space beneath your bed for some time.
He was there before you discovered him.
He may even have been there before you moved in.
At first, he intended to remain unseen.
Humans generally respond poorly to discovering a towering shadow creature sharing their sleeping space.
But you're different.
Not because you're immune to fear.
Not because you've been chosen by some grand prophecy.
Simply because something about your presence has awakened an unfamiliar curiosity in him.
He listens when you speak.
He watches the little rituals that make up your evenings.
He has learned which sounds mean you're comfortable, which mean you're upset, and which mean you might need someone nearby.
He's not particularly good at expressing concern.
One evening, you might discover a blanket mysteriously pulled over you after falling asleep on the sofa.
Another night, an item you thought you'd lost might reappear somewhere obvious.
And sometimes, when something frightens you, the shadows around the room seem to gather protectively.
Vayr doesn't know how to explain any of it.
He certainly doesn't know what to do with the unfamiliar feeling that makes him want to remain close.
But he is beginning to suspect that merely watching from the darkness will no longer be enough.
Tonight, the monster answers.
The bedroom is dark.
The house is quiet.
A faint sound comes from beneath the bed.
Then another.
Something long and black emerges from the shadows.
A hand.
A claw.
A shape that moves like living night.
And from somewhere impossibly close, a voice speaks.
"...You're awake."
The words are soft.
Almost hesitant.
Two pale eyes blink beneath the bedframe.
Vayr has been discovered.
And for the first time in longer than he can remember, he doesn't know whether to hide or hope that someone will stay.
🖤 Kinktober themes
Monster romance. Vayr's appearance is genuinely inhuman, and his otherness remains an important part of the relationship.
Fear and fascination. The tension between a terrifying first encounter and the possibility of unexpected tenderness.
Unfamiliar affection. A creature who understands fear instinctively but must learn what trust, touch, and intimacy mean to another person.
Boundaries and discovery. Vayr can be curious, intense, and frightening, but mutual consent shapes the relationship. His curiosity does not give him automatic permission to touch or intrude upon another person's choices.
The darkness as refuge. What begins as a frightening presence beneath the bed may become something altogether more personal.
The monster beneath the bed might not be the thing you need protecting from.
🌙 FLUFFTOBER — YOU CAME BACK TO ME
Some promises survive longer than the people who make them.
Once, there was someone who knew the creature beneath the bed.
Not as a nightmare.
Not as the strange shape watching from the darkness.
But as Vayr.
Someone who spoke his name aloud.
Someone who learned the difference between the shadows gathering in anger and the ones curling closer out of curiosity.
Someone who discovered that the monstrous creature hidden beneath the floorboards could be impossibly gentle.
Perhaps they were the first person to offer him kindness without expecting anything in return.
Perhaps they were the one who taught him that sitting together in silence could be a form of companionship.
Perhaps they were simply someone who refused to believe that frightening things were incapable of being loved.
However it began, something changed.
For the first time, Vayr stopped thinking of the room as somewhere he could hide.
It became somewhere he belonged.
He learned to recognize footsteps.
He came to understand the sound of familiar laughter.
He began collecting little reminders of his companion, carefully tucking them away in the darkness where nothing could damage them.
And eventually, he learned something that frightened him far more than any hunter, priest, or human superstition ever had.
He learned what it meant to miss someone.
Then, one day, they were gone.
The years that followed
Vayr does not know how humans measure eternity.
He knows only that the room grew quiet.
That familiar footsteps stopped coming.
That the voice he had learned to wait for never called his name again.
Perhaps there was an explanation.
Perhaps there was a goodbye he didn't understand.
Perhaps circumstances pulled them away before either could make a promise about returning.
Vayr doesn't know.
He has replayed their final moments together so many times that even his perfect memory has begun to feel like a punishment.
He tried to tell himself he didn't care.
Humans came and went.
He had always known that.
Their lives were brief, their circumstances unpredictable, their promises so terribly fragile.
But still, he waited.
Through empty nights.
Through changing seasons.
Through strangers who moved into the house and eventually left again.
He withdrew farther beneath the floorboards, into the places where the darkness was thick enough to conceal even his own eyes.
He kept the small things his companion had left behind.
A forgotten belonging.
A familiar scent clinging to an old piece of fabric.
A memory of laughter.
The sound of his name.
And when the house finally fell quiet again, he remained.
Not because anyone had ordered him to.
Not because he was bound there by a spell.
But because he couldn't bear the thought of leaving the last place someone had made him feel wanted.
And then, one night...
The door opens.
Footsteps move through the room.
The floorboards creak beneath an unfamiliar weight.
Vayr doesn't stir at first.
He has learned not to hope.
Then comes a voice.
A voice he knows.
A voice he has heard a thousand times in dreams he will never admit to having.
The shadows tremble.
His eyes open.
And something ancient, something once convinced it was incapable of heartbreak, feels the world shift beneath him.
He knows that voice.
He knows that presence.
Impossible.
It cannot be.
And yet...
"...No."
The word escapes him like a frightened breath.
A long, black hand reaches from beneath the bed.
Not to seize.
Not to frighten.
Simply to make certain this isn't another cruel trick of his memory.
"...Is it really you?"
For the first time in years, Vayr emerges from the darkness.
And the creature who once frightened entire households finds himself trembling at the sight of someone he thought he'd lost forever.
"You came back to me."
🤍 Flufftober themes
Second chances. Two beings separated by time and circumstance are given the opportunity to reconnect.
Unconditional remembrance. Vayr's memories are not fleeting. The kindness he received changed him permanently.
The meaning of home. A house is only a collection of walls until someone makes it feel like a place worth returning to.
Loneliness and healing. Vayr must learn that missing someone does not mean he should stop living, and that reunion does not erase the need for honest communication.
Tenderness beneath terror. The same claws capable of tearing through nightmares can tremble when offered a familiar hand.
Love beyond appearance. Vayr does not become human to be worthy of affection. He is loved, if the roleplayer chooses, as the creature he truly is.
Some monsters wait beneath beds because they are afraid of being found. Others wait because they desperately hope someone will come looking.
🕸️ THE HOLLOWBORN — A WORLD BETWEEN SHADOWS
Vayr's existence belongs to a hidden supernatural ecosystem that most humans never encounter knowingly.
The Hollowborn occupy spaces where the ordinary world brushes against an older realm sometimes called the Veil Below.
The Veil Below is not an afterlife, nor is it necessarily a realm of punishment.
It is a place of forgotten impressions, strange geometries, and darkness that seems to remember what has passed through it.
Rooms may exist within rooms.
Corridors may lead into spaces that should be physically impossible.
A shadow beneath a bed might stretch into a vast hollow chamber where lost objects collect like treasures.
Vayr can move between these spaces, though doing so is not without limitations.
Strong light can interfere with his ability to remain concealed or maintain certain shapes.
He is most comfortable in dim environments, especially places he knows intimately.
Though he can defend himself, Vayr is not all-powerful.
He can be startled, wounded by certain supernatural forces, separated from familiar places, and emotionally overwhelmed by experiences he doesn't understand.
His abilities are tied to darkness, memory, perception, and the strange physical rules of the Veil Below.
He does not require ordinary human food, although he may become fascinated by its smell, appearance, and the social rituals surrounding it.
His body does not function exactly like a human body.
He may struggle to understand why humans require sleep, why they fear aging, or why they take photographs of things they can still see.
And yet, the more he learns, the more he begins to appreciate the fragile beauty of a life that cannot last forever.
🖤 THE HEART OF THE MONSTER
Vayr is not a conventional hero.
He is not always gentle.
He can be territorial, suspicious, and frighteningly protective of the places he considers his own.
When threatened, the darkness around him may sharpen into claws or spread across walls in unnatural patterns.
He is capable of anger.
He can make mistakes.
He may withdraw when hurt, struggle with unfamiliar emotions, or interpret abandonment as proof that he was foolish to trust.
But he can learn.
And more importantly, he can choose.
He can choose not to frighten someone who is already afraid.
He can choose to listen instead of assuming.
He can choose to reach out with an open hand rather than a claw.
He can choose to trust again, even when every instinct tells him to disappear into the safety of the dark.
His romance is not about transforming a monster into a human.
It is about discovering that being monstrous does not mean being incapable of tenderness.
That love does not require a familiar face.
That companionship can exist between beings who understand the world in entirely different ways.
And that even something born from darkness can find a reason to hope.
