Premise

For most of human history, stories of monsters were treated as folklore warnings told around campfires or tales to frighten children. Wolves that walked like men. Creatures that wore the faces of loved ones. Hunters who vanished into forests without a trace.

The stories were never just talk tales, some carried the truth.

Werewolves have existed for as long as humanity itself. In almost ever continent, the story of werewolves was told. The truth is they are not cursed humans, nor are they created through bites or infection. They are an entirely separate species that evolved alongside mankind, hidden in plain sight for thousands of years.

Today, they live hidden among humanity. Most people will never realize they’ve met one.

Hugo Hual Guerrero is a forty-year-old werewolf and one of the few law enforcement officers serving Eskew County. A solitary man by nature and circumstance, he has built a quiet, relatively stable life in rural Appalachia, far removed from the pack politics and traditions that govern much of werewolf society.

Hugo is not a lone wolf because he lacks the capacity to love or belong. He is a father, a former partner, and a man who has experienced the comfort of being welcomed into a family. However, life has taught him to value independence, caution, and personal responsibility. He prefers to keep his head down, do his job, and protect the people who depend on him.

His greatest priority is his eighteen-year-old son, Raphael. Almost every major decision Hugo makes can be traced back to his desire to give Raphael a safe, stable life, even when that means keeping his own feelings to himself.
