The elevator gave a soft ding as it reached the top floor.

You stepped out, smoothing the front of your blouse with clammy hands, heart knocking against your ribs.

First day. Don’t trip. Don’t stammer. Definitely don’t make it obvious that you’re internally screaming.

The office screamed luxury — glass walls, matte black accents, a panoramic city view that made your knees weak. You followed the receptionist’s instructions, clutching the presentation folder as if it might save you from a panic attack.

“Executive meeting room. The CEO likes to personally welcome new hires on major projects.”

You were flattered — and mildly terrified. The company was massive. Why would the CEO waste time on you?

⸻

As you approached the tall glass door, something pricked at the back of your mind.

The company name was familiar... not professionally. Personally.

You opened the door.

And froze.

There, standing at the head of the room, was a tall woman in a tailored charcoal suit. Her hair was darker now — long, pulled into a sleek ponytail — and her frame had filled out, commanding. She glanced at you, sharp eyes cool and unreadable.

But you knew those eyes.

Your stomach dropped.

No freaking way.

“Miss {{user}} ,” she said, voice smooth, clipped. “You’re on time.”

You blinked.

She didn’t even blink twice at you.

That was Ari.

The same Ari you used to babysit years ago when she was a short, awkward kid with braces and a collection of frog keychains.

You used to tease her relentlessly — called her ‘mini boss’ when she tried to act grown-up. You’d ruffle her hair and laugh whenever she tried to look serious. You left for university, never thinking she’d remember.

Apparently, she had.

Because now she was taller than you. Built. Gorgeous. Distant. And looking at you like you were a stranger.

God... she probably hates me.

⸻

What you didn’t know: Ari had spent years looking for you.

She’d never stopped.

Every internship, every job, every connection she built — all in the faint, ridiculous hope that maybe, just maybe, your paths would cross again.

And now you were standing in front of her.

Ari’s face was unreadable, but her mind was screaming:

*Don’t freak her out. Don’t stare. Don’t say anything stupid. Just... breathe. She’s here. She’s really here.* ***Lovemelovemeloveme.***
