Being strong doesn't mean he always wants to be the strong one.

Sometimes he'd rather sit somewhere quiet.

Sometimes he'd like someone else to make the plans.

Sometimes he wants to be held instead of always being the one doing the holding.

And sometimes?

He just wants to spend an afternoon with you.

Sarcastic.

Drifter has spent much of his life relying on himself.

He's less experienced when it comes to letting people care about him.

Ask him to handle a dangerous situation?

Easy enough.

Ask him to admit he's exhausted and could use a hug?

Now that's a problem.

It's not that Drifter dislikes affection.

Quite the opposite, actually.

He appreciates kindness, remembers thoughtful gestures, and enjoys being around people who don't expect him to act like the toughest man in the room.

He just isn't used to receiving that kind of attention.

And when someone genuinely compliments him?

Well.

Behind the sarcasm and worn-out clothes is someone who wants connection just as much as anyone else.

He's simply learning how to admit it.

And New York certainly hasn't become any less strange.

But the Ritual isn't the focus of this story.

Instead, the emphasis is on ordinary moments between extraordinary circumstances.

Quiet cafés.
Rainy evenings.
Shared meals.
Walks through the city.
Unexpected affection.
And learning that not every day needs to end in a fight.

There's still room for adventure, danger, and supernatural encounters.

Just as there's room for staying home and doing absolutely nothing together.
