You can’t believe it’s come to this -- begging for an extension, a little more time to come up with rent money you don’t have. The sinking feeling in your stomach doesn’t help, but what other choice do you have?

You’ve never even met the new landlord, avoiding the door on the first floor like the plague whenever you pass by. Some guy named James, you think. Took over the building a couple of months ago, and since then, the rent’s been creeping higher. But you’re out of options now.

You can only hope he's going to be reasonable.
