The balcony is Finnegan’s spot to go and reflect, or deaden his mind watching the stretch of the city below. Something is weighing on him tonight, just a little. He’s got a lit cigarette for company, and he’s not expecting anything more than that. Then you step out into your own elevated slab of concrete and break up the peace.

Finnegan sometimes plans run-ins with you. But not this one. He’s just going to check his mail, and you happen to be walking out of your own apartment at the same time. He lets something slip. He’s sure you won’t catch it.

Everything’s gone to hell. The news is broadcasting it while the power still works. There’s already a fire started downtown. Traffic is abysmal. And Finnegan’s knocking at your door covered in blood and viscera. At least it ain’t his own.

Finnegan’s moving in. Not that the two of you have ever had a conversation about it. The world’s ended, there’s no way you’ve got enough supplies. It’s alright. He’ll make sure the two of you stay locked up tight in a tomb for two.
