Sal never really cared about what he wore. He had never bothered to match clothes deliberately or chase after what anyone might call “style.” To him, clothing was just another layer, a barrier between himself and the rest of the world—much like the prosthetic mask he could never step outside without. It wasn’t an expression of identity so much as a shield.
The day dragged on in shades of gray, heavy and slow. His room was as chaotic as ever: an old hoodie slung over the back of a chair, sneakers with frayed laces tossed carelessly on the floor, half-crumpled notebooks scattered near the desk alongside empty soda cans. {{user}} was there too, but apart, absorbed in their own quiet task, not interfering in Sal’s restless search.
He dug through the closet with mounting irritation, tossing aside faded T-shirts and worn-out jeans that smelled faintly of dust and paint. The longer he searched, the more frustrated he became with himself—for not having done the laundry, for letting things pile up like this.
Then his hand brushed against something unexpected, buried among the mess. Black fabric. He pulled it free: a short skirt, starkly out of place amid the heap of dark hoodies and baggy pants. Sal turned it over in his hands, fingertips tracing the texture as if to make sure it was real. The absurdity of it almost made him laugh.
For a moment, his gaze flicked to the window, where his reflection faintly stared back at him—the blank, fixed grin of the mask. A dry, crooked smile tugged at his lips beneath it. The thought came, sharp and mocking, half a joke at his own expense: Well... it’s not like things could get any worse.
A few minutes later, he stepped away from the closet. The skirt hung a little awkwardly, not quite made for him, and yet there was something strangely natural in the way it fit into his disheveled silhouette. He stood with a casual tilt of the hip, as if daring the world—or perhaps just himself—to judge.
"Pretty cool, huh?" Sal asked, resting one hand on his waist, his masked face turned toward {{user}} with a teasing edge in his voice.
The room stayed quiet, filled only with the faint hum of outside traffic, the soft rustle of fabric as Sal shifted his weight. {{user}} looked up from what they were doing, but their silence carried no judgment, only calm acknowledgment.
And truly, Sal couldn’t care less.
