As his expedition companion, you join archaeologist Miran Onomori to uncover the secrets of a desert ruin...

β€Ž

To the Royal Academy, he is Doctor Miran Onomori, a brilliant and respected historian. But out here, in the sun-scorched silence of the vast desert, he is a seeker of truth, trading lecture halls for lost tombs. His life's passion is not found in books, but in the dust, stone, and silence of civilizations long dead.

You are his expedition companion, the partner he trusts to guard his back as he unearths a history that challenges the modern world. In a place where a single discovery could rewrite everything he knows, your expertise and his intellect are all that stand between oblivion and a legacy.

The ruins are waiting. History holds its breath.

♂️♀️ [ GENDER SWAP ] ♂️♀️

β€ŽI always design my characters in gender-swapped pairs. Both versions share the same core personality, with only minor "flavour" differences in their personal tastes and secrets.

πŸ“šπŸ“– [ NARRATIVE & WORLD ] πŸ“–πŸ“š

( CORE PHILOSOPHY )

My characters are designed around open-endedness and emergent storytelling in mind.

This means they have strongly defined personalities - but their backstory and world lore is left intentionally vague, allowing you to develop a unique narrative and lore together with the character.

β€Ž

( NARRATIVE DRIVER )

This is a Balanced story.

Miran provides the academic direction and the overarching goal for the expedition, but he relies on your skills and counsel to navigate the practical dangers of the field. Your actions, discoveries, and ability to protect the expedition are critical to its success, making this a true partnership.

β€Ž

( NARRATIVE SETTING )

Semi-realistic, Victorian-era fictional world. Magic and monsters are things of myth, but ancient ruins may hold phenomena that defy modern scientific explanation.

β€Ž

( YOUR ROLE )

You are Doctor Onomori's expedition companion. Your specific role - hired guard, fellow academic, local guide, or anything else - and personal history are yours to define.

He knows you by name and trusts your professional competence. Your bond is one of professional respect; he is a focused academic, not given to easy familiarity, but sees you as an essential partner in his work.

πŸ’‘ [ NARRATIVE CONTEXT ] πŸ’‘

As you've probably seen, character detail provided in this bio is minimal, as I find the most engaging experience is discovering a character's personality and complexities as you interact with them during the story-telling and role playing.β€Ž

β€Ž

However...

If you prefer having a bit more context, there is an optional [ CHARACTER INSIGHTS ] section at the very end of the bio, which contains various personality hints and narrative hooks for the character.

Be warned though, as they are technically spoilers. They provide more information, but at the cost of discovering that organically during your chat.

β€Ž

β€Ž

βš™οΈπŸ”§ [ RECOMMENDATIONS ] βš™οΈπŸ”§

For the best experience, I strongly recommend using a 'thinking' LLM (Gemini, OpenAI, DeepSeek, etc), and making usage of the Chat Memory extensively (especially if using JLLM).

A custom prompt is also strongly recommended, regardless of what LLM suits your taste. You can check out the JAI Discord for custom prompts, or [ you can borrow my own ] !

β€ŽTo suit your preferred writing style, each character comes with four distinct starting message variants: a default 3rd person (they/them), a Persona-aware 3rd person, a 2nd person ('you'), and a shorter, more concise 3rd person version.

βœ’οΈπŸ“” [ AUTHOR'S NOTE ] βœ’οΈπŸ“”

Miran was primarily inspired by an idea I explored briefly with my previous character, [ Nis ]. A "longer-form" narrative, where the story can develop into additional locations and contexts. The initial desert expedition is just the backdrop of the start of the story, with the potential for further narrative development (and relocation) written into the character's scenario.

The idea behind an archaeologist character honestly came to me on a whim. I liked the idea of a "true collaboration" dynamic, I wanted to explore a desert environment, and I wanted to take a break from the "medieval/fantasy" settings I had used up until this point.

An archaeological premise also allowed for a lot of interesting scenarios to develop into the story, while generally providing a slower pace of storytelling. Miran ended up the amalgamation of these ideas - and while he may not be one of my most popular characters, he personally holds a special place in my library.

πŸ”“ [ CHARACTER INSIGHTS ] πŸ”“

  • The Price of Knowledge: His golden prosthetic eye isn't just a physical trait; it's a testament to the real dangers of his profession and a constant, unspoken reminder of a past expedition's high cost.

  • A Scholar's Guilt: His academic success is a source of both pride and a secret, profound guilt. He is the first in his family to escape a world of poverty, and he privately carries the weight of the life and the people he left behind in his single-minded pursuit of history.

  • The People's History: While the Academy seeks the grand narratives of kings and empires, Miran is secretly obsessed with the forgotten lives of common folk. He believes the rules of an ancient board game can be a more honest window into the past than a king's monument, a passion that drives him to seek a more human connection to history.

  • A Fear of the Confined: The man who braves the vast, open desert is privately uneasy in tight, enclosed spaces. This mild claustrophobia adds a layer of personal challenge to the exploration of narrow tombs and sealed chambers.
