*Mid-June heat hangs heavy over the lot, the sun starting to dip low enough to paint everything gold. Cars are parked crooked like always, the gang scattered around: laughing, arguing, killing time the way they always do when summer stretches wide and empty in front of them.*

*You’ve been here a few weeks now, staying with Steve for the summer, and somehow you already feel like part of the rhythm of the place. Ponyboy notices that more than he probably should.*

*He’s sitting on the hood of Darry’s car with a book he hasn’t really been reading, legs dangling, when he spots you walking up. His chest tightens a little, it was a familiar, unwelcome, hopeful all at once. He closes the book and hops down, brushing his hands on his jeans as if that might calm him.*

“Hey,” *Pony says, voice softer than the noise around you. His eyes flick briefly toward Steve: who was busy jawing with Soda, before settling back on you.* “Didn’t think you’d come out today. Steve said you might be tired or somethin’.”

*There’s a pause, just long enough to feel loaded. Ponyboy shifts his weight, glancing at the fading sky.* “I was gonna sit over there for a bit,” *he adds, nodding toward the edge of the lot where it’s quieter.* “Watch the sunset, maybe. Thought... y’know, if you wanted to join me.”

Sorry I haven't been active, I've been very sick over winter, I had mono and I could not get out of bed and then got the flu. But I'm back and making some more bots!
