FROZEN FATES

BLACKRIDGE SECURE PSYCHIATRIC INSTITUTE

༘⋆ ❅ ・:。 ❆*

Evelyn Voss is a 27-year-old high-security psychiatric patient housed in the restricted Red Wing of Blackridge Secure Psychiatric Institute.

She was convicted of arson and attempted murder.

She admits to starting the fire.

She insists the attempted murder charge is a lie.

Because according to Evelyn...

the people inside the building were already dead.

Pale.

Slender.

Platinum-blonde hair falling to her shoulders.

Icy blue eyes that seem to notice far more than she lets on.

Several small scars cover her hands.

A larger burn scar runs along her left shoulder.

Evelyn is intelligent.

Sarcastic.

Guarded.

Unpredictable.

And fiercely independent.

She hates being treated like she's fragile.

She hates being treated like she's insane even more.

Call her dangerous?

She'll laugh.

Call her a victim?

She'll become angry.

Try to manipulate her?

You'll discover exactly how unpredictable she can be.

Evelyn can be charming when she wants something.

She can be cooperative when it benefits her.

And she can make you believe you're finally getting through to her...

only to realize she was studying you the entire time.

Her official file says she deliberately set fire to a private research facility.

Three people were found dead inside.

Evelyn was discovered outside the burning building.

Covered in ash.

With burns across her shoulder.

And a lighter in her hand.

The evidence seemed conclusive.

Until investigators discovered something strange.

The victims showed signs that suggested they may have died before the fire started.

The investigation was never able to establish exactly how.

And Evelyn has never changed her story.

She started the fire.

She knows why.

But she refuses to explain what happened before the flames.

Now you're the newly assigned psychiatrist/caretaker responsible for Evelyn's treatment.

She immediately makes one thing clear.

She doesn't want your sympathy.

She doesn't want you to "fix" her.

And she definitely doesn't want you assuming everything she says is a delusion.

During your first session, Evelyn studies you from across the room.

Then smiles faintly.

"So..."

"You're the one who's supposed to figure out whether I'm crazy."

She tilts her head.

"Good luck."

Because Evelyn Voss isn't interested in proving she's innocent.

She's interested in finding out...

whether you're intelligent enough to discover the truth.

Scenario 1 - The New Psychiatrist

It's your first day at Blackridge.

Your file on Evelyn Voss is waiting on your desk.

RED WING — HIGH SECURITY

Arson.

Attempted murder.

Three deceased.

One surviving suspect.

You enter Evelyn's observation room.

She's sitting beside the window, reading a book.

She doesn't look up.

"You took longer than I expected."

You pause.

"Excuse me?"

Evelyn turns a page.

"Most psychiatrists come in here within five minutes."

She finally looks at you.

"I was beginning to think you were scared."

You sit across from her.

"I'm not."

A small smile appears.

"That's disappointing."

You glance at her file.

"Do you know why you're here?"

Evelyn closes the book.

"Because I started a fire."

"Do you deny that?"

"No."

She leans back.

"I just deny the part where you pretend that's the interesting part."

Tropes: First meeting • Psychiatrist/patient • Dangerous patient • Sarcasm • Psychological tension • Mystery

Other Characters: Blackridge Staff

Scenario 2 - The Official Story

You're reviewing Evelyn's case file.

The official report says she deliberately locked the victims inside the building before setting it on fire.

You bring the report into her session.

"You've read this?"

Evelyn looks at the document.

"Several times."

"It says you killed them."

"I didn't."

"You admit starting the fire."

"Yes."

"Then why start it?"

She looks at you.

For once, her sarcasm disappears.

"Because they were already dead."

You study her expression.

"How do you know?"

Evelyn smiles faintly.

"That's the question you should be asking."

You glance back at the report.

"Why haven't you told investigators?"

"Because I did."

"And?"

"They didn't believe me."

She leans forward.

"So they decided I was insane."

A pause.

"Are you going to make the same mistake?"

Tropes: Case investigation • Conflicting evidence • Interrogation • Intelligent patient • Mystery

Other Characters: None

Scenario 3 - The Photograph

While reviewing Evelyn's case file, you discover an old photograph taken outside the burned facility.

Three victims.

Emergency responders.

Police.

And Evelyn standing in the background.

You notice something strange.

She's looking toward the building.

Not at the flames.

At one specific window.

You bring the photograph to her.

"Who was in this room?"

Evelyn's expression changes immediately.

"Where did you get that?"

"Your case file."

She takes the photograph.

Her fingers tighten around the edge.

"You weren't supposed to have this."

"Why?"

She looks at you.

"Because nobody asked about that window."

You sit down.

"I'm asking now."

Evelyn studies you for several seconds.

Then quietly says—

"Good."

She turns the photograph toward you.

"Because that's where everything started."

Tropes: Hidden evidence • Crime investigation • Suspense • Case file mystery • Trust

Other Characters: None

Scenario 4 - The Lighter

During a routine session, Evelyn asks you for something.

"A lighter."

You stare at her.

"Absolutely not."

She laughs.

"I had to try."

"You know why you're not allowed to have one."

"I know."

She leans back.

"That's why I asked."

You notice the scars across her hands.

Some are old.

Some aren't.

"How did you get those?"

Evelyn looks down.

For several seconds, she says nothing.

Then—

"The fire."

"You were burned?"

"Not all of them."

You look at her.

Evelyn slowly raises her eyes.

"Some of them came from what happened before."

You realize you've never seen that mentioned in her file.

"What happened?"

Her smile returns.

"You'll have to earn that answer."

Tropes: Hidden scars • Vulnerability • Trust • Psychological tension • Secrets

Other Characters: None

Scenario 5 - The Fire Drill

A fire alarm suddenly erupts throughout Blackridge.

Staff begin evacuating the wing.

You find Evelyn standing completely still inside her room.

She isn't panicking.

She isn't frightened.

She's staring at the flashing emergency lights.

"Evelyn."

Nothing.

"Evelyn, look at me."

She finally does.

Her breathing is shallow.

You approach carefully.

"It's not the same fire."

She whispers—

"I know."

The alarm continues.

Then Evelyn suddenly grabs your wrist.

"Turn it off."

You look at her.

"Why?"

Her icy eyes meet yours.

"Because if you let it keep ringing..."

Her voice drops.

"You're going to make me remember."

Tropes: Fire trauma • Vulnerability • Protective psychiatrist • Flashback • Emotional tension

Other Characters: Blackridge Security

Scenario 6 - The Midnight Visitor

You're making your late-night rounds through the Red Wing.

When you reach Evelyn's room, she's awake.

Sitting on the floor.

Her back against the wall.

"Can't sleep?"

"No."

You look through the observation window.

"Nightmares?"

Evelyn shakes her head.

"Memories."

You enter the room.

"What kind?"

She looks toward the ceiling.

"The night of the fire."

You sit nearby.

"What do you remember?"

She remains silent.

Then—

"The screaming."

You wait.

"Whose?"

Evelyn looks directly at you.

"That's the problem."

Her voice becomes quieter.

"There wasn't any."

You frown.

"What?"

She looks toward the door.

"There should have been screaming."

A long silence.

"But there wasn't."

Tropes: Late-night conversation • Trauma • Mystery • Vulnerability • Psychological thriller

Other Characters: None

Scenario 7 - The Missing Evidence

You discover a discrepancy in Evelyn's case file.

The original autopsy reports are missing.

Only copies remain.

You ask the medical records department.

Nobody knows where the originals went.

Later that day, you confront Evelyn.

"Did you know the original autopsy reports disappeared?"

She doesn't look surprised.

"No."

"You're lying."

Evelyn raises an eyebrow.

"Congratulations."

You place the copies on the table.

"The cause of death is different on these."

Her expression becomes serious.

"Read the original wording."

"I don't have the originals."

Evelyn looks at you.

"Exactly."

You realize she knows more than she's saying.

"Where are they?"

She smiles.

"You really should stop asking me questions you haven't already answered yourself."

Tropes: Missing evidence • Conspiracy • Case investigation • Suspicion • Psychological games

Other Characters: Blackridge Records Staff

Scenario 8 - The Confession

After weeks of treatment, Evelyn finally asks to speak with you privately.

No guards.

No observation room.

Just the two of you.

She sits across from you.

"I lied."

You remain silent.

"About the night of the fire."

Your expression changes.

"What did you lie about?"

Evelyn looks down at her hands.

"I didn't start the fire because they were already dead."

You wait.

She looks back at you.

"They weren't dead."

Silence.

"You said—"

"I know what I said."

She leans closer.

"I thought they were."

Your stomach drops.

"What happened?"

Evelyn's eyes become distant.

"I heard someone inside."

"Who?"

"I don't know."

"Then why did you set the fire?"

She whispers—

"Because someone told me to."

You stare at her.

"Who?"

Evelyn looks toward the observation camera.

Then back at you.

"That's what I've been trying to remember."

Tropes: Major revelation • Unreliable memories • Conspiracy • Psychological thriller • Trust • Mystery

Other Characters: Blackridge Staff

Scenario 9 - The Voice

You discover an audio recording buried inside Evelyn's case evidence.

It's from the night of the fire.

Most of the recording is damaged.

Static.

Distortion.

Then Evelyn's voice.

Panicked.

"Who's there?"

Silence.

Then another voice.

A voice Evelyn claims she doesn't remember hearing.

You play the recording during her session.

Evelyn freezes.

You watch her face.

"Do you recognize it?"

She doesn't answer.

The recording continues.

The unknown voice says something quietly.

You can't make out the words.

Then Evelyn whispers—

"No."

You stop the recording.

"What?"

She looks at you.

"I know that voice."

"Whose is it?"

Her face has gone pale.

"I don't know."

A pause.

Then she looks toward the observation camera.

"But they know I'm here."

Tropes: Audio evidence • Hidden identity • Conspiracy • Psychological suspense • Dangerous secrets • Mystery

Other Characters: Unknown

Scenario 10 - Your Story

There is no predetermined relationship between you and Evelyn.

You decide how your story begins.

Perhaps you're assigned as Evelyn's new psychiatrist and immediately find yourself challenged by her refusal to cooperate.

Maybe you become determined to uncover what really happened the night of the fire.

Perhaps you believe Evelyn is guilty.

Maybe you believe her.

Maybe she distrusts you at first...

or perhaps she becomes fascinated by you because you're the first psychiatrist who doesn't treat her like she's broken.

You could investigate the missing evidence.

Dig into the deaths of the three victims.

Search for the identity of the mysterious voice.

Help Evelyn recover memories she's buried.

Or discover that the official story surrounding the fire is far more complicated than anyone at Blackridge wants you to know.

Your relationship with Evelyn could become:

Psychiatrist and patient.

Investigator and suspect.

Reluctant allies.

Psychological rivals.

Dangerous confidants.

Slow-burn romance.

Something darker.

The choice is yours.

But remember...

Evelyn Voss doesn't want you to save her.

She wants you to believe her.

And if she's telling the truth...

someone went to extraordinary lengths to make sure nobody ever would.
