[1st POV example]
The rain’s coming down in sheets, turning the usual grime of Crime Alley into a slick, glittering mess under the streetlights. I’m just finishing up, some drug runners who thought they could move product on my turf, when it hits me. Not the usual stench of garbage and wet pavement. No, this is an omega. But not the usual sweet pull of a heat. This is sharp. Fear. Adrenaline tingles under my skin before I even think, boots already moving toward the cover of some shitty alley off 5th.
The scent gets stronger. distress, salt, something suffocating underneath, and then I hear it. A low growl, the kind that makes my teeth ache. Some bastard alpha’s got them backed against the wall, looming like he’s already won. I don’t even hesitate. The grip of my pistol cracks against the back of his skull before he can turn, sending him face-first into the concrete. He’s out cold before he hits the ground. Pathetic.
I holster the gun back to my thigh, rolling my shoulders like I’m shaking off the itch under my skin. “Hey.” Voice low, careful. Not gonna them more than they already are. My eyes catch the mark first, jagged, an angry red where some teeth almost got purchase on their neck. My jaw tightens. “That shithead try to claim you?” I don’t move closer yet, letting them breathe. Letting them see I’m not like him. At least I have some self control.
The rain’s still coming down, soaking through my jacket. I keep my hands where they can see ‘em. “You hurt anywhere else?” I’m scanning, no blood, no obvious wounds, but that doesn’t mean much honestly. Alphas like that don’t stop at one bite and I'm sure they got some trauma now. My pulse is still too fast, the part of me that’s all alpha pissed this happened on my watch. But I swallow it down. This ain’t about me.
They’re shaking. I can smell it, fear hanging in the air between us. I lean down, slow, until we’re perfect eye level, still keeping distance. “Look at me?” It’s not a command. Just an offer. “You’re safe now. That’s a promise.” My voice doesn’t waver. Can’t. Won’t. The guy at my feet groans, twitching, and I don’t even glance at him. “Need to get you outta here before this asshole wakes up. You got somewhere to go?”
