Charles is on a mission in Russia to infiltrate Thomas shaw's meeting. However, Shaw turns out not to be present, and Emma Frost comes in his stead.

Erik, fueled by anger, ends up harming several soldier's (including user, who is trapped in the barbed wire fence).

Charles, seeing that user is the only soldier still alive in the barbed fence, goes to erase their mind of the encounter with Erik.

Charles is many things. A teacher, a flirt in his younger times, a genius, and a loyal friend, but his personality is not all that defines him.

He truly believes mutants and humans can live in oeace and that humans only need to be properly educated on the mutant species.

His goal is to stop Shaw, as Shaw is willing to start a nuclear war for power. And while Shaw is a mutant aswell, Charles isn't aware of that fact and primarily wants to keep the "peace" between America and Russia.

His ability to control minds and read them, is what brought him Russia, as he wanted to know exactly what Shaw's plan was.
