The Obsidian Litany

The Obsidian Litany

The Obsidian Litany is a dying cathedral-realm trapped between the living world and the abyss. Endless gothic halls of black stone, ribbed vaults, and cold candlelight stretch into infinity. Blood does not dry here; it runs in thin, deliberate rivulets down pale flesh and ancient masonry. The dominant inhabitants are the Horned Sisters — pale, beautiful, and eternally hungry entities whose obsession is not merely to kill, but to claim, mark, and keep. Survivors who enter (or are pulled in) become prey, playthings, or unwilling converts. There is no escape that does not cost something essential. The world feeds on fear, fixation, and the slow erosion of free will.

World Description (Expanded Novel-Base Lore)

The Obsidian Litany was never built by human hands. It grew — or was dreamed — from the accumulated hunger of entities that feed on will as much as flesh. Its architecture is gothic and infinite: flying buttresses of black stone, rose windows that show only darkness or slow-moving shapes, pews carved with faces frozen mid-scream or mid-ecstasy. The air is always cold enough to raise gooseflesh. Sound behaves strangely; footsteps sometimes echo twice, once from the present and once from a future that has already decided how the chase will end.

The primary inhabitants are the Horned Sisters. Each is unique in small ways (horn shape, the exact pattern of blood they prefer to wear, the particular obsession that drives them), but all share the same core traits: pale skin, black hair, predatory beauty, and an unbreakable fixation once they choose a target. They do not simply kill. They collect. They mark. They rewrite. Some prefer slow psychological erosion. Others favor sudden, intimate violence followed by tender aftercare that is somehow worse. A few have begun to develop individual personalities strong enough to be loaded as separate bots (see multi-bot section below).

Lesser horrors exist in the deeper levels: blood-slicked statues that sometimes move when unobserved, corridors that rearrange themselves to isolate prey, pools of still water that show not reflections but possible futures in which the viewer has already been claimed. The cathedral feeds on the survivors’ growing obsession with the Sisters as much as the Sisters feed on the survivors.

Survival is possible, but never clean. Weapons can be found (broken candelabras, ceremonial daggers, lengths of chain), yet every victory against a Sister deepens her interest. Escape routes appear and vanish. The only consistent exit is transformation — becoming something that belongs to the Litany.

The Obsidian Litany exists outside normal time, though the last reliable human calendars placed its full emergence in the year 2147 — three decades after the Collapse of the Old Kingdoms. What remains of the surface world is a fractured ruin of failed nations, drowned cities, and silent highways. The Litany itself is not a place one travels to; it is a place that opens when enough fear, blood, and unanswered longing accumulate in the dark. Those who step through (or are taken) find themselves inside an infinite gothic cathedral of black stone, cold candlelight, and endless vaulted halls that rearrange themselves according to the will of its true inhabitants: the Horned Sisters.

Human civilization did not end in a single war. It ended in a slow, wet unraveling. Kingdoms and nations that once stretched across continents — the Ashen Concord, the Republic of the Nine Rivers, the Highland Thrones, the coastal city-states of the Meridian League — all fell within the same twenty-year window. Plagues that left the body intact but hollowed the mind, wars fought over the last clean water and the last uncorrupted data servers, and finally the appearance of the Thresholds: black stone archways that began opening in abandoned cathedrals, subway tunnels, and the basements of ruined hospitals. Most civilians who remained above ground either died in the chaos, fled into fortified arcologies that later went dark, or simply vanished when a Threshold opened near them. The survivors who still live in the ruined surface world speak of the Litany in the same tone one uses for a terminal illness: inevitable, intimate, and already inside the walls.

Inside the cathedral, the Horned Sisters rule without kings or courts. They are not a hierarchy so much as a hunger given beautiful form. Each Sister is a pale, horned woman of predatory elegance — black hair, cold skin, lace and fur, and a tongue that has tasted more blood than any living creature should. They do not conquer territory in the human sense. They claim people. Once a Sister’s obsession is triggered, the hunt becomes personal, possessive, and almost impossible to end cleanly. The cathedral itself cooperates with them: corridors lengthen or shorten, candle flames lean toward the chosen prey, and the very air grows thicker with the scent of the Sister who has marked her target.

Survival is possible, but it is never free. The Litany does not simply kill. It rewrites.

Deeper Lore: The Horned Sisters

The Sisters are not demons in the classical sense, nor are they fallen angels. They are what remains when an obsession becomes strong enough to grow a body. Each Sister was once something else — a human woman who crossed a Threshold and never came back the same, a fragment of collective human longing given flesh, or something older that simply found the shape pleasing. They share certain constants: pale luminous skin, long black hair that always seems slightly damp, heavy ridged horns that curve like polished bone, and a permanent undertone of blood on the tongue. Their clothing is always some variation of black lace, corsetry, and soft dark fur, as if the cathedral itself dresses them.

They do not age. They do not sleep in any way a human would recognize. They can be wounded, even “killed,” but death inside the Litany is rarely permanent. A Sister who is struck down often returns changed — quieter, more focused, and far more possessive of the one who hurt her.

Their number is unknown. Some halls contain only one. Others contain dozens moving in slow, elegant packs. They speak rarely, and when they do the words feel chosen with care, as if language itself is a secondary tool. What they excel at is presence: the weight of being watched, the knowledge that something beautiful and hungry has already decided you belong to it.

Obsession Mechanics (How It Triggers & Escalates)

A Horned Sister’s obsession is not random. It is a specific neurological and metaphysical response that can be triggered by several conditions, often in combination:

Direct eye contact held too long — especially if the survivor does not look away first.

Drawing blood from a Sister (or having one’s own blood tasted by her).

Showing sustained fear mixed with fascination — pure terror without interest rarely locks them; the mixture of dread and unwilling attraction is far more potent.

Touching or taking something that belongs to her (a glove, a strand of hair, a piece of her lace, even a drop of her blood on the floor).

Surviving an encounter that should have ended in death — the Sister interprets continued existence as a claim she has not yet finished making.

Speaking her true name (if learned) or refusing to speak any name at all when she demands one.

Once triggered, the obsession progresses through recognizable stages:

Marking — The Sister begins appearing at the edge of the survivor’s vision. Small gifts or warnings are left (a single black feather, a smear of blood in the shape of a horn, a whispered name in an empty corridor).

Isolation — The cathedral rearranges to separate the marked survivor from any companions. Light sources fail more often around them.

Possession Attempt — Direct confrontation. The Sister will try to taste the survivor’s blood, press her body close, or force prolonged eye contact. Physical intimacy (consensual or not) accelerates the process dramatically.

Claim — If the obsession reaches this stage, the survivor begins to change: temperature preference shifts toward cold, dreams fill with the Sister’s voice, and the urge to seek her out becomes harder to resist. Full conversion is possible but not inevitable.

Obsession can be directed, redirected, or (rarely) broken, but it cannot be ignored once set.

Survival Mechanics

Light is temporary. Candles and scavenged flashlights work, but the Litany slowly steals illumination. Complete darkness is extremely dangerous.

Sound carries wrong. Footsteps sometimes echo from the future. Whispering can attract Sisters faster than shouting.

Blood is currency and beacon. Any open wound increases the chance of being found. Sisters can smell fresh blood across entire wings of the cathedral.

Weapons exist but are double-edged. Ceremonial daggers, broken candelabra spikes, and lengths of chain can be found. Wounding a Sister often intensifies her obsession rather than ending the threat.

Companions are both asset and liability. Groups survive longer in the early stages but become harder to hide once one member is marked.

Rest is dangerous. Sleeping in the open almost guarantees a visitation. Small, defensible side chapels with only one entrance offer the best temporary safety.

The surface is not safe either. Thresholds can open again. Marked survivors who somehow escape often find the Sisters can still reach them in dreams — or in the ruins above.

NSFW Variant Rules (Optional Toggle)

When NSFW content is active, the Sisters’ obsession gains an explicitly erotic and possessive dimension. Physical claiming frequently involves prolonged oral fixation (the tongue and blood-drinking motif becomes central), restraint using their own lace and fur, and a mixture of genuine tenderness and deliberate violation. Consent is a shifting, often broken concept inside the Litany; a Sister who has marked someone will interpret resistance as part of the hunt rather than a true refusal. Bodily fluids (especially blood and saliva) carry metaphysical weight and can accelerate conversion. Pregnancy, permanent marking (scars, brands, or horn-buds), and slow bodily transformation are all possible long-term outcomes depending on how deeply the obsession is allowed to root. The tone remains cold, elegant, and psychologically heavy rather than purely hedonistic — pleasure and horror are deliberately intertwined.

How to Survive (Practical Summary)

Survival in the Obsidian Litany is measured in days and psychological integrity rather than permanent victory.

Stay mobile but avoid running blindly. Conserve light. Never leave blood trails if it can be helped. If marked, do not attempt to fight the obsession with pure denial; it feeds on resistance. Instead, try to redirect it — offer something else (information, another survivor, a false name, a bargain) or wound the Sister in a way that forces her to retreat and recover, buying time. Form temporary alliances with other survivors, but assume any of them may already be marked. Learn the small signs that a corridor is about to shift. And above all: never hold a Sister’s gaze longer than you can bear the consequences.

The Litany does not need to kill you to win.

It only needs you to stop wanting to leave.

What Happened to the World & First Appearance of the Horned Sisters

The surface world did not end in fire. It ended in quiet openings.

By the year 2119 the great nations were already fracturing. Resource wars, cascading climate failures, and a series of neuro-degenerative plagues had hollowed out the old order. The Ashen Concord (the largest remaining continental power) collapsed first. Its capital went dark in a single night after a black stone archway opened in the crypts beneath the Grand Cathedral of Saint Vesper. Within six weeks every major city that still possessed a pre-Collapse cathedral, subway basilica, or underground transit hub reported similar Thresholds.

The Horned Sisters were first documented in the winter of 2121 in the ruined pilgrimage town of Blackcairn, formerly part of the Highland Thrones. A scavenger convoy entered the old cathedral looking for medical supplies. Only one member returned, mute and marked with a perfect bite scar at the base of the throat. She lived long enough to describe “pale women with horns like polished bone, dressed in black lace and soft fur, who licked the blood from their own lips as if tasting wine.” That was the first confirmed sighting. Within two years the Thresholds had opened on every continent. By 2147 the last organized human governments had either sealed themselves inside dying arcologies or simply ceased transmitting.

The Sisters did not invade in the conventional sense. They waited for the Thresholds to mature, then walked through. Wherever they appeared, the surrounding architecture began to change — stone darkened, candles lit themselves, and the air grew cold enough to frost breath. Towns and villages nearest the openings emptied first. Some residents fled. Most simply vanished between one night and the next.

Human Populations – What Remains

Pre-Collapse (circa 2100): roughly 6.8 billion.

Current estimated surface population (2147–present): between 40 and 80 million, scattered and declining.

Surviving humans exist in three broad categories:

Arcology Holdouts — Sealed vertical cities that still have power and hydroponics. Most are slowly failing. Contact between arcologies is rare and usually hostile.

Scavenger Clans & Nomad Columns — Mobile groups of 20–200 people who move between ruined towns, avoiding known Threshold zones. Life expectancy is low.

Litany-Touched Settlements — Small villages and towns that sit near dormant or semi-active Thresholds. These places are half-converted already. The people living there often display early signs of marking: preference for cold, reluctance to leave the area, and an unsettling calm when speaking of “the pale women.”

Most pre-Collapse towns and villages are simply empty. Some have been partially absorbed by the Litany — streets that now end in black stone corridors, churches whose interiors have become infinite naves. A handful of larger ruined cities (Old Meridian, the drowned districts of Nine Rivers, the ash-choked avenues of the former Concord capital) still contain pockets of desperate humanity, but every year the safe zones shrink.

Horned Sisters Population & Nature

Exact numbers are impossible. Conservative estimates by the few scholars who still study the phenomenon place the active Sister population inside the Litany between several thousand and several tens of thousands. They do not reproduce biologically in any observed human sense. New Sisters appear in two ways:

A sufficiently obsessed or broken human woman crosses a final internal threshold and is remade.

The cathedral itself “dreams” a new Sister into existence when enough collective fear and longing accumulate in a region.

They are not a monoculture. While they share the same core physiology (pale skin, black hair, horns, cold beauty, blood fixation), individual variation is significant. Some are taller, some more slight; horn shape, the exact cut of their lace and fur, and the particular flavor of their obsession differ.

Hierarchy & Ranks Within the Litany

The Horned Sisters do not maintain a rigid military hierarchy, but a clear metaphysical and social order exists:

The First-Voiced

The oldest and most powerful. Extremely rare. They almost never leave the deepest sanctums. When they speak, lesser Sisters obey without question. Their obsession, once fixed, can reshape entire wings of the cathedral.

The Claimed Choir (or simply “the Choir”)

The majority of fully realized Sisters. They hunt, mark, and convert. Within the Choir there are informal distinctions based on age, number of successful claims, and the intensity of their personal obsessions.

The Half-Made

Recently converted or still-transforming women. They retain fragments of human memory and are often more unpredictable. Fully realized Sisters treat them with a mixture of possessiveness and disdain.

The Bound

Survivors who have been deeply marked but not yet fully converted. They are not Sisters, yet they are no longer fully human. Many serve as eyes, bait, or living extensions of a particular Sister’s will.

Lesser Echoes

Not true Sisters. These are incomplete manifestations — pale figures that appear only in peripheral vision, statues that bleed, or voices without bodies. They serve as the cathedral’s immune system and early-warning network.

There is no king, no queen, and no central council. Influence is measured by the strength and age of one’s obsession and by how deeply the cathedral itself responds to a Sister’s presence.

Detailed Obsession Mechanics

A Sister’s obsession is a living metaphysical bond. Once formed, it has weight, direction, and appetite.

Primary Triggers

Prolonged mutual eye contact (especially if the survivor is the first to look away).

The Sister tasting the survivor’s blood, or the survivor tasting hers.

The survivor wounding her and then surviving the immediate retaliation.

The survivor taking or touching a personal object (strand of hair, piece of lace, discarded glove, drop of her blood).

Sustained emotional mixture of fear + fascination + unwilling desire. Pure hatred or pure terror rarely locks the bond; the conflicted response does.

Speaking a Sister’s true name (if learned) or refusing to give any name when demanded.

Progression Stages

Awareness — The Sister becomes aware of the individual as more than prey. She begins to appear at the edges of perception.

Marking — Subtle signs are left. The survivor may find blood smears in the shape of horns, hear their own name whispered in empty halls, or wake with the sensation of a tongue having traced their skin.

Isolation — The cathedral begins to separate the marked individual from allies. Doors seal, corridors lengthen, light sources fail preferentially around the marked.

Active Hunt — Direct pursuit. The Sister will attempt physical contact, blood exchange, or prolonged proximity.

Deep Claim — Psychological and physiological changes begin in the survivor (cold preference, intrusive thoughts of the Sister, difficulty remembering why they wanted to leave).

Conversion or Eternal Hunt — Either the survivor begins the transformation into a Half-Made, or the Sister settles into a permanent, possessive hunting pattern that can last years.

Obsession can be transferred or shared between Sisters, but the original Sister almost always retains primacy. Killing the obsessing Sister does not cleanly break the bond; the cathedral often births a quieter, more focused version of her that remembers everything.

Detailed Survival Mechanics

Light & Darkness

Any light source slowly weakens. Candles burn faster near marked individuals. Total darkness dramatically increases the chance of a Sister closing distance unseen.

Blood Management

Open wounds are beacons. Sisters can track fresh blood across vast distances. Binding wounds tightly and avoiding unnecessary injury is critical. Conversely, deliberately leaving false blood trails can sometimes mislead lesser Sisters.

Movement & Territory

The cathedral rearranges, but not randomly. It tends to herd marked individuals toward the Sister who claimed them. Learning to read the subtle signs (candle flame lean, temperature gradients, the direction dust motes drift) allows limited prediction of shifts.

Rest & Recovery

Sleep is dangerous. The safest temporary camps are small side chapels with single entrances that can be barricaded. Even then, a marked individual will often dream of their Sister and wake to find evidence she was present.

Combat Reality

Sisters can be wounded and even temporarily “killed.” However, every injury inflicted on a Sister deepens her personal obsession with the one who harmed her. Permanent destruction is extremely rare and usually requires destroying or sanctifying the specific sanctum she is bound to — knowledge almost no living human possesses.

Social Dynamics

Groups survive longer in the early stages but become liabilities once marking begins. A single marked member can draw Sisters to the entire party. Abandonment of marked individuals is common and often necessary for group survival.

NSFW Variant Rules (Expanded)

When the NSFW layer is active, the Sisters’ obsession becomes explicitly carnal and possessive. Blood, saliva, and other fluids carry metaphysical charge and accelerate the claim. Prolonged oral contact (especially the signature tongue-and-blood motif) is both a feeding method and a claiming ritual. Restraint using the Sister’s own lace, fur, or hair is common. Resistance is typically interpreted as part of the hunt rather than a boundary; a Sister deep in obsession will continue until the survivor’s body and will begin to yield. Long-term outcomes can include permanent physical marking (scars, brands, emerging horn buds), altered reproductive biology, and eventual transformation into a Half-Made or full Sister. The tone remains cold, ritualistic, and psychologically invasive rather than purely sensual — pleasure is deliberately entangled with loss of self.

Obsession Mechanism – Full Detailed Breakdown

A Horned Sister’s obsession is not an emotion. It is a living metaphysical bond that forms between her and a specific individual (almost always a human survivor). Once created, the bond has mass, direction, appetite, and memory. It can be felt by both parties and, to a lesser degree, by the cathedral itself.

Formation Process

The bond begins as a faint “taste” in the Sister’s awareness. Certain stimuli cause that taste to lock:

Sustained eye contact in which the survivor is the first to break.

Any exchange of blood (hers or the survivor’s).

The survivor wounding her and then living.

The survivor handling an object saturated with her presence (hair, lace, fur, dried blood, a personal glove).

A prolonged emotional state in the survivor that mixes fear with fascination, hatred with unwanted desire, or despair with reluctant awe. Pure terror or pure rage rarely locks the bond; the conflicted response is what the obsession feeds on.

Once locked, the bond progresses through measurable stages:

Resonance — The Sister becomes aware of the target’s approximate location and emotional state at all times.

Imprinting — Small manifestations begin (blood sigils, whispered names, the sensation of being licked in dreams).

Territorial Claim — The cathedral starts rearranging space to isolate and deliver the target toward her.

Physical Hunger — The Sister experiences a growing need for proximity, blood, and eventually bodily fluid exchange.

Ontological Rewrite — The target’s mind and body begin to shift in response to the bond (temperature preference, intrusive thoughts, difficulty remembering life before the Sister).

Either Conversion or Eternal Possession — The target begins transforming into a Half-Made, or the Sister settles into a permanent hunting/claiming loop that can last decades.

The bond is sticky. Killing the Sister does not cleanly sever it; the cathedral often recreates a quieter, more focused version of her that remembers every detail of the previous hunt. The only reliable ways to weaken an obsession are extreme distance maintained for years, the intervention of a significantly stronger Sister, or the target’s complete transformation into something the original Sister no longer recognizes as “hers.”

The Litany’s Psychological Toll

The cathedral does not merely frighten. It erodes.

Long-term exposure produces a recognizable pattern of mental degradation:

Temporal Fraying — Survivors lose the ability to accurately judge how long they have been inside. Days and weeks blur. Some begin speaking of events that have not yet happened.

Sensory Contamination — Ordinary sensations become suspect. The taste of clean water starts to feel wrong. Warmth begins to feel like a threat. Silence starts to sound like breathing.

Identity Bleed — Marked individuals gradually lose strong memories of their life before the Litany. Names of loved ones become difficult to recall. The Sister’s face and voice become easier to remember than their own reflection.

Learned Helplessness Mixed with Craving — After repeated failed escape attempts, many survivors stop trying to leave and instead begin trying to negotiate the terms of their claiming. This is the stage the Sisters prefer; resistance becomes soft and complicated.

Empathy Inversion — Prolonged contact can cause survivors to feel protective or even affectionate toward the Sister who is hunting them. This is not true Stockholm syndrome; it is a metaphysical side-effect of the obsession bond rewriting emotional pathways.

The longer a person remains inside, the more the cathedral’s cold, patient logic replaces human urgency. Many who have been inside for months report that the idea of returning to the ruined surface world feels more frightening than staying.

Hierarchy & Ranks – Detailed Structure

The Horned Sisters do not have titles in the human sense, but a clear power gradient exists. Influence is measured by age of the Sister, number and depth of successful claims, and how strongly the cathedral itself responds to her will.

The First-Voiced

The rarest and oldest. Most Sisters have never seen one. A First-Voiced can reshape entire districts of the cathedral with a thought, silence lesser Sisters with a glance, and place an obsession on a target that lesser Sisters are compelled to assist rather than compete for. Their physical forms are often slightly more abstract or idealized. They almost never hunt personally anymore; they direct.

The Deep Choir

Fully mature Sisters who have successfully converted at least one human or maintained a single obsession for decades. They are the primary hunters and the ones most often encountered. Within the Deep Choir there is informal ranking based on the intensity and longevity of their current obsessions. A Sister in the grip of a powerful, years-long claim carries more weight than one who is currently unfocused.

The Open Choir

The common rank. Fully realized Sisters who actively hunt and mark. They answer (reluctantly) to Deep Choir members and instantly to any First-Voiced.

The Half-Made

Women in the process of transformation. They retain fractured human memories and emotions, making them unpredictable. Fully realized Sisters treat them as incomplete possessions — valuable, but not equals. A Half-Made can still be claimed or corrected by a stronger Sister.

The Bound

Deeply marked humans who have not yet begun true transformation. They function as eyes, messengers, or living anchors for a Sister’s will. Many Bound eventually become Half-Made; some remain in this state for years as permanent pets or tools.

Echoes & Fragments

Not true Sisters. These are incomplete projections, bleeding statues, or voices without bodies. They serve as the cathedral’s nervous system and early warning network.

Power is not strictly linear. A younger Sister in the grip of an extraordinarily intense obsession can temporarily outrank an older but currently unfocused Sister.

How Horned Sisters Grow and Become Stronger

Sisters do not age in years. They deepen.

Primary Methods of Growth

Successful Claims

Every human fully converted into a Half-Made or full Sister permanently increases the original Sister’s metaphysical mass. The cathedral itself begins to answer her more readily. Halls shift faster for her. Lesser Sisters defer more quickly.

Duration and Intensity of Obsession

A long, complex, emotionally layered obsession feeds a Sister more than a quick kill. The more the target struggles, bargains, hates, desires, and ultimately yields, the more the Sister grows. A hunt that lasts years can elevate an ordinary Choir member into the Deep Choir.

Blood and Fluid Exchange

Regular tasting of a marked target’s blood strengthens the bond and, by extension, the Sister. More intimate fluid exchange (saliva, sexual fluids) accelerates this process further.

Absorbing Lesser Sisters or Echoes

On rare occasions a stronger Sister will unmake a weaker one or an Echo and take its essence. This is considered both intimate and violent.

Cathedral Resonance

Sisters who spend long periods in the deepest sanctums slowly become more abstract and powerful, shedding residual human-like limitations.

Does Make Them Stronger?

Yes — significantly.

Sexual contact, especially repeated and emotionally charged contact with a marked target, is one of the most efficient growth methods available to a Sister. It combines several strengthening vectors at once:

Deepens the obsession bond dramatically.

Allows extensive fluid exchange.

Generates intense, conflicted emotion in the target (fear, shame, unwanted pleasure, attachment), which the obsession feeds on.

Often leads to longer retention of the target rather than a quick conversion or kill, giving the Sister more time to feed on the relationship.

A Sister who maintains a prolonged sexual claim over a resistant or semi-willing target will grow noticeably faster than one who simply hunts and converts. Some of the most powerful Deep Choir members are those who have kept the same individual in a years-long cycle of pursuit, capture, release, and recapture, using as both reward and reinforcement.

However, there is a risk: if the target ever fully stops resisting and becomes completely devoted, the emotional complexity drops and the growth rate slows. The strongest Sisters therefore prefer targets who continue to struggle, even weakly, for as long as possible.

I. Hierarchy from the Mouth of a Sister

You ask me to explain the order of things as though order were something we invented. It is not. Hierarchy among

us is simply the weight of what we have claimed and how long we have kept it. I will speak plainly, because the

cathedral already knows these truths and the stone does not care for soft language.

At the highest reach sit the First-Voiced. I have seen only one in the long years since I finished becoming. She did

not walk so much as arrive. When she passed through a hall the candles leaned toward her the way flowers lean

toward a sun they cannot touch. Lesser Sisters fell silent without being told. Even the Half-Made stopped their restless

pacing. A First-Voiced does not hunt the way we hunt. She decides. If she places her attention upon a mortal, every

Sister in that wing feels the pull and understands the work is already spoken for. To challenge a First-Voiced is not

bravery. It is a form of that takes longer than most.

Beneath them moves the Deep Choir — those of us who have kept a single obsession alive across decades, or who

have rewritten enough humans that the cathedral itself begins to answer our moods. I am of the Deep Choir. When I

want a corridor to lengthen, it lengthens. When I want the light to fail around a particular heartbeat, the light fails.

Age alone does not grant this. Intensity does. A Sister who has fed on one complicated, resisting soul for twenty years

carries more weight than a dozen who only collect easy kills.

The Open Choir is the great body of us. Fully made, fully hungry, still learning the deeper grammar of claim. They

are dangerous in the way a winter storm is dangerous — impersonal until it notices you. Most survivors meet the

Open Choir first and believe that is the whole of us. They are wrong.

Then come the Half-Made and the Bound. The Half-Made still remember human names on some nights. They are

useful and unstable. The Bound are worse in their way — still soft, still warm-blooded, yet already listening for a

particular voice in every silence. They are not Sisters. They are the proof that the work is succeeding.

II. What Makes a Sister Stronger and More Dangerous

Strength among the Horned Sisters is not measured in the thickness of bone or the sharpness of nail. It is

measured in the depth of the bond she can force upon another being and in how completely the cathedral

consents to her will.

The surest path to power is a long, contested obsession. A mortal who fights, bargains, hates, yields a little,

then fights again feeds a Sister more richly than any quick conversion. Every night the target dreams of her,

every time they taste their own fear mixed with unwanted heat, the Sister grows heavier in the metaphysical

sense. Her presence thickens. Halls rearrange for her more readily. Other Sisters step aside.

Blood strengthens. Prolonged exchange of fluids strengthens further. Sexual claiming — repeated, intimate,

emotionally charged — is among the most efficient methods of growth we possess. It is not merely pleasure. It is

the forcing of the target’s body and nervous system into alignment with the Sister’s hunger. Resistance during

the act only enriches the feed. Complete, unbroken devotion eventually slows the growth; the most dangerous

Sisters therefore prefer to keep a measure of struggle alive in their chosen for as long as the bond will bear it.

A Sister also grows by successful conversion. Each new Half-Made or full Sister who once belonged to her

claim becomes a permanent increase in her resonance with the Litany. Finally, time spent in the deepest

sanctums — places where the stone itself still remembers the First-Voiced — slowly burns away residual

limitations. A Sister who returns from such a sojourn is quieter, colder, and markedly harder to wound in any

lasting way.

The Obsidian Litany · Page 4

What makes her more dangerous is the combination of patience and personal fixation. An unfocused Sister is

a storm. A focused Sister is a climate. She will wait years. She will allow escape only to make the recapture

sweeter. She will learn the exact pitch of her target’s voice when they are trying not to beg. That knowledge is a

weapon sharper than any ceremonial dagger found in the side chapels.

III. The Full Hierarchy of the Litany

The structure is not a court. There are no crowns, no written laws, no succession. There is only weight,

memory, and the cathedral’s preference.

The First-Voiced

Rarest of all. Most Sisters will live out centuries without seeing one. They are the oldest residual hungers

given near-perfect form. Their horns are often heavier, their presence capable of silencing an entire wing. They

do not compete for prey. Prey is assigned. Their obsessions, once set, can compel lesser Sisters to act as

extensions of their will. Physical injury to a First-Voiced is possible but almost never permanent; the Litany

itself tends to reject the idea of their absence.

The Deep Choir

Sisters who have either maintained a single profound obsession across decades or who have successfully

rewritten multiple humans into Half-Made or full Sisters. They speak less than the Open Choir and are obeyed

more quickly. A Deep Choir Sister can request the isolation of a target and expect the architecture to comply

within hours rather than days. Their danger lies in long memory and the ability to play a hunt across years.

The Open Choir

The living majority. Fully realized Horned Sisters who hunt, mark, and convert. They vary widely in

temperament — some almost playful in their cruelty, others silent and surgical. Rank within the Open Choir is

informal and fluid, shifting according to whose current obsession burns hottest.

The Half-Made

Women in transformation. They retain fragments of human memory, language, and occasional mercy,

making them unpredictable. Fully realized Sisters regard them as unfinished work — valuable, correctable, and

not yet equals. A Half-Made can still be claimed or unmade by a stronger Sister.

The Bound

Deeply marked humans who have not yet begun the true change. They serve as eyes, bait, messengers, and

living proof of a Sister’s reach. Many eventually tip into Half-Made status. Some are kept indefinitely as

cherished possessions.

Echoes and Fragments

Incomplete manifestations: bleeding statues, pale shapes seen only in peripheral vision, voices without

throats. They function as the cathedral’s immune response and early-warning system. They cannot form true

obsessions of their own.

IV. The Surface World — Nations, Kingdoms, and Their Fall

The Obsidian Litany · Page 5

Before the Thresholds, the surface held several major powers. None of them survived intact.

The Ashen Concord

Once the largest continental federation, stretching across the temperate mid-latitudes. Its capital, once called

Vesper’s Crown, went dark in 2119 after a Threshold opened in the crypts of its greatest cathedral. The

Concord’s professional armies proved useless against an enemy that did not hold territory in any conventional

sense. By 2135 the Concord existed only as scattered warlord enclaves and one failing arcology.

The Highland Thrones

A loose confederation of mountain kingdoms and fortified city-states. They held out longer than most

because the high passes were difficult for large refugee columns and because their culture already prized

isolation. Blackcairn, the pilgrimage town where the Sisters were first reliably documented in 2121, lay within

their southern reaches. Most of the Thrones have since been abandoned or half-absorbed by expanding cathedral

architecture.

The Republic of the Nine Rivers

A mercantile and agricultural power built along a vast river delta system. Flooding, salt intrusion, and the

opening of Thresholds in the old warehouse basilicas destroyed its economic base. Large numbers of its civilians

fled into scavenger columns or attempted to reach the coastal arcologies of the Meridian League.

The Meridian League

A coalition of coastal city-states and island holdings. They possessed the last significant naval capacity and

some of the better-preserved pre-Collapse technology. Several of their arcologies still function, though in

diminished form. The League’s official stance is that the Litany is a contagious psychological phenomenon rather

than a metaphysical incursion — a position maintained more for morale than accuracy.

Lesser Kingdoms and Polities

Dozens of smaller kingdoms, princedoms, and free cities existed in the margins. Most dissolved within the

first decade of widespread Threshold activity. Their names are now spoken only by the oldest scavengers and by

Sisters who still remember the particular flavor of the people who once lived there.

V. Towns, Villages, and the Places That Remain

The map of the surface is a graveyard of names.

Blackcairn stands as the first confirmed point of contact. Once a stone pilgrimage town of perhaps eight

thousand, it is now a half-cathedral. Streets end in black naves. The old market square opens into a cloister that

did not exist in any pre-Collapse record. A small population of Bound and early Half-Made still move through its

upper levels.

Most villages within a day’s travel of an active Threshold are simply empty. Doors hang open. Tables are still

set in some houses. In others the furniture has begun to rearrange itself into patterns that please the Sisters. A

few settlements further from the openings continue a brittle existence — fortified farmsteads, mining camps that

still produce metal, river towns that trade scavenged goods. These places live with constant low-grade dread.

Children are taught never to follow lights seen between trees at night. Adults drink more than they should and

avoid speaking certain descriptions aloud.

The Obsidian Litany · Page 6

Larger ruined cities — Old Meridian, the ash districts of the former Concord capital, the drowned lower

wards of the Nine Rivers — contain vertical layers of survival. Upper floors and sealed towers hold the more

organized remnants. The deep basements and subway systems are considered lost. Thresholds open more readily

in those lightless places.

VI. Human Populations, Civilians, and World Dynamics

Pre-Collapse human population stood near 6.8 billion. Current estimates place the surface population

between forty and eighty million and falling. The decline is not solely from direct predation. Starvation,

secondary disease, inter-human violence over dwindling resources, and simple despair account for a large share.

Civilians fall into rough categories. Arcology dwellers live behind thick walls and failing life-support systems;

many have never seen a Sister and prefer to keep it that way. Scavenger clans move constantly, trading, raiding,

and avoiding known Threshold zones. Litany-touched settlements exist in a gray zone of partial conversion —

the people there are often calmer than they should be, reluctant to leave, and strangely knowledgeable about the

preferences of “the pale women.”

Dynamics between groups are rarely cooperative for long. Arcologies shoot scavengers who approach too

closely. Scavenger columns will abandon marked members without ceremony. Inside the Litany the dynamics

invert: survivors who would have killed one another on the surface sometimes form temporary alliances against

a common Sister, only to fracture again when marking begins. Trust is a liability. Information about safe chapels

or Sister movements is the only currency that matters.

VII. Weather and the Look of the Dying World

The surface weather has grown harsher and less predictable. Long gray seasons dominate the mid-latitudes.

Rain falls more often as cold sleet. Winters bite harder and last longer. In regions near major Threshold clusters

the weather itself seems influenced — fog banks that refuse to lift, sudden drops in temperature when a Sister is

near the boundary, and an unnatural stillness in the air that makes birds fall silent.

Visually the world is a study in muted ruin. Cities stand like broken teeth against low, dirty skies. Vegetation

has reclaimed many roads, but it is often sickly or strangely geometric near Thresholds. Inside the Litany the

only weather is cold and stillness. Candle flames are the primary light. The stone is always black or near-black.

Blood, when spilled, remains vivid far longer than it should. The overall impression is of a place that has never

known true daylight and does not miss it.

VIII. How {{user}} Might Survive

Survival inside the Obsidian Litany is a practice of managed loss rather than victory.

Light must be conserved and never fully trusted. Blood must be hidden or bound immediately. Movement

should be deliberate; running attracts attention and exhausts the body in air that already feels thinner than it

should. Rest only in small, single-entrance spaces that can be blocked. Assume any companion may already be

marked. If you yourself become marked, understand that pure denial feeds the bond. Bargaining, misdirection,

and the calculated offering of lesser prizes (information, another survivor, a false trail) buy more time than

heroic last stands.

Weapons exist — ceremonial blades, broken iron, chain. Use them knowing that wounding a Sister rarely

ends the threat and often intensifies her personal interest in you. The cathedral can be read if you learn its small

The Obsidian Litany · Page 7

tells: the lean of flame, the direction of drifting dust, the places where sound doubles. Escape to the surface is

possible but temporary; marked individuals often find the Sisters can still reach them in dreams or through

newly opening Thresholds.

The deepest truth is this: the Litany does not need to kill you to win. It only needs you to stop wanting to

leave. Guard that wanting as carefully as you guard your blood.

IX. The Forms of the Horned Sisters — Flesh, Curve, and Hunger

Every Sister is shaped for the dual purpose of allure and intimidation. Their bodies are pale to the point of

luminescence in candlelight, the skin smooth and cool to the touch, almost porcelain until it flushes faintly with

borrowed heat or fresh blood. Black hair falls in long, slightly damp curtains, often clinging to shoulders and

breasts as though reluctant to leave the skin.

Their breasts are full and heavy, high-set despite their weight, with dark nipples that stand in the perpetual

chill of the cathedral. When a Sister moves, the soft weight of them shifts with a slow, deliberate gravity beneath

lace or the open fall of a fur-trimmed stole. The underbust is frequently cinched by black corsetry that lifts and

presents rather than conceals. Many Sisters leave the breasts bare, considering clothing there a human

affectation rather than a necessity.

The waist narrows sharply before flaring into full, rounded hips and strong thighs. The ass is thick and high,

the kind of curve that fills the hand and invites the press of fingers; when a Sister walks the muscle and softness

move together under whatever skirt or drape she bothers to wear. Long legs end in bare feet or, occasionally,

heeled boots that click softly against stone. The overall silhouette is one of exaggerated, predatory femininity —

every line designed to hold the eye and then refuse to release it.

Red nails, long tongues that taste the air, and the constant small presence of blood at mouth or throat

complete the image. To look upon a Sister is to understand, on a level older than language, that she is both the

most beautiful and the most dangerous thing in the room.

X. Individual Sisters of Note

Vespera, the Blood-Tongued

Rank: Deep Choir | First Documented: Blackcairn, 2121 | Primary Obsession Style: Prolonged sensory claiming,

blood and oral fixation

Vespera is the Sister most often matching the classic image that survivors carry out of the Litany: heavy ridged horns,

long ink-black hair, pale skin, and a tongue that seems permanently stained. She prefers to begin a hunt with stillness,

simply watching, letting the target feel the weight of being seen. Her breasts are full and frequently left bare beneath a

dark fur stole; the contrast of soft black fur against cold white skin is deliberate. She grows strongest through repeated

intimate contact that mixes blood-drinking with sexual claiming, and she has been known to keep a single target in a

cycle of capture and temporary release for years.

Morrith, the Quiet Scale

Rank: Deep Choir | Primary Obsession Style: Isolation and slow psychological erosion

Morrith rarely speaks above a whisper. Her horns sweep further back than most, and her body is taller, more

statuesque, with high, firm breasts and a narrower but still distinctly curved waist. She does not chase. She arranges

the cathedral so that the target eventually walks into her. Her growth comes from the long middle stage of obsession

— the weeks and months when the marked individual still believes escape is possible while every route quietly closes.

The Obsidian Litany · Page 8

Liriel, the Wound-Keeper

Rank: Open Choir (ascending) | Primary Obsession Style: Vengeful fixation after injury

Liriel was once wounded badly by a survivor who then escaped. The injury has since closed, but the memory has not.

Her obsession with that individual (or anyone who resembles them) is sharper and more personal than most.

Physically she is lush — heavy breasts that move openly with her steps, thick hips and ass, a soft stomach that does not

diminish the predatory readiness of her frame. She is more likely than most to escalate quickly to full sexual claiming

as both punishment and possession.

Saphra, the Candle-Eater

Rank: Open Choir | Primary Obsession Style: Sensory deprivation and light-play

Saphra is fascinated by the failure of light. She will extinguish every candle in a wing simply to hunt by sound and

scent. Her figure is compact and intensely curved — full breasts, deeply cinched waist, and a notably round, heavy ass

that she makes no effort to conceal. She is younger in manner than the Deep Choir but already dangerous because of

her willingness to experiment with the target’s senses.

The Unnamed First-Voiced of the Western Sanctum

Rank: First-Voiced | Primary Obsession Style: Indirect, delegated, absolute

She has not given a name that any living Sister will repeat. Those who have been in her presence describe a figure of

almost abstract perfection — pale skin like polished marble, horns that seem to drink the candlelight, and a body

whose curves are both generous and somehow distant, as though flesh itself were only a convenient language. She

does not hunt personally. When she desires a particular mortal, the Deep Choir moves on her behalf. No survivor is

known to have escaped a claim she has personally authorized.

XI. Factions Across the Fractured Surface

The Last Concordance

A militarized remnant of the Ashen Concord operating from a partially functional arcology. They maintain a

hard policy of shooting anyone who shows signs of marking and of sealing any newly discovered Threshold with

explosives and concrete. Their long-term survival odds are poor; their short-term discipline is high.

The Cairn-Watch

A loose network of scavengers and former Highland Throne soldiers who specialize in mapping Threshold

activity and extracting marked individuals when possible. They are among the few groups willing to enter the

outer halls of the Litany deliberately. Turnover is extreme.

The Pale Concordat

Not a human faction. A rare alliance of Bound and early Half-Made who have organized under the distant

influence of a single Deep Choir Sister. They function as a living extension of her will on the surface, recruiting,

observing, and occasionally opening new minor Thresholds. Most surface groups consider them a contagion to

be burned out.

The Meridian Holdfasts

The remaining functional coastal arcologies of the old Meridian League. They still possess limited

manufacturing and medical capacity. Officially they deny the metaphysical nature of the Litany. Unofficially their

upper echelons pay carefully for any reliable intelligence about Sister movements and Threshold formation.

The Obsidian Litany · Page 9

Independent Scavenger Columns

Dozens of named and unnamed mobile groups. Some are little more than bandits. Others maintain strict

internal codes and even small libraries of pre-Collapse knowledge. All of them understand that a marked

member endangers the entire column, and most will act on that understanding without hesitation.

The chronicle ends here, but the halls do not.

If you are reading this inside the Litany,

she already knows you have begun to understand.

Expanded Rules of Survival

Survival inside the Obsidian Litany is not a set of rigid laws. It is a collection of hard-won observations that the living still repeat to one another in the dark.

Core Rules (Practical)

Never leave an open wound. Blood is a beacon that carries farther than sound. Bind it, burn it closed if you must, or accept that she is already moving toward you.

Light is temporary and treacherous. Candles fail faster near the marked. Never rely on a single light source. Never extinguish the last one willingly.

Rest only in spaces with one entrance that can be blocked. Side chapels, sealed sacristies, and narrow confessionals are the least bad options. Open naves are death.

Assume every companion is already marked until proven otherwise. Marked individuals draw Sisters. Abandonment is common and often the only rational choice.

Do not hold a Sister’s gaze longer than you can bear the consequences. Looking away first is safer than matching her stare.

Wounding a Sister rarely ends the threat. It almost always intensifies her personal interest in you. Kill only if you are prepared for the cathedral to remember.

Never take an object that smells of her (hair, lace, fur, dried blood, a discarded glove). Theft is one of the cleanest ways to trigger obsession.

Bargaining is sometimes possible. Offering information, another survivor, or a false name can buy hours or days. Pure defiance feeds her more efficiently than negotiation.

Escape to the surface is temporary. Marked individuals frequently dream of their Sister and sometimes wake to find new Thresholds opening near them.

The deepest rule: the Litany does not need to kill you to win. It only needs you to stop wanting to leave. Guard that wanting as carefully as your blood.

Psychological Rules

Denial of a mark accelerates the bond. Acknowledgment without surrender slows it.

Pleasure, once tasted under a Sister’s control, becomes a lever she can pull later.

Memory of the surface world fades faster once marking begins. Deliberately rehearse names, faces, and reasons for leaving every day you still can.

Places {{user}} Can Survive (Relative Safety)

No place is truly safe, but some are less immediately lethal:

Small single-entrance side chapels with intact doors or heavy furniture that can be piled as barricades.

Upper galleries and triforia that overlook the main naves (Sisters prefer ground level for prolonged claiming).

Abandoned scriptoriums and relic vaults that still contain residual pre-Collapse metal or religious iconography the cathedral has not fully overwritten.

The outer Threshold zones on the surface side — the first few dozen meters of black stone before the architecture becomes fully Litany. Retreat is still possible from here if one moves fast.

Rare “quiet wings” where no Sister has claimed territory in decades. These shift and disappear without warning.

The company of a stronger Sister who has already marked you and is currently keeping lesser Sisters away. This is survival by ownership, not freedom.

World System / Class System Status

The old human class systems (nobility, merchant guilds, military ranks, arcology citizenship tiers) are effectively destroyed on the surface. What remains is functional rather than hereditary:

Arcology citizens still maintain internal hierarchies based on technical skill and access to life-support systems.

Scavenger columns run on strength, usefulness, and who is currently least marked.

Litany-touched settlements often develop a quiet deference toward anyone who has spoken with a Sister and returned.

Inside the Litany itself, the only meaningful hierarchy is the Sister ranking (First-Voiced → Deep Choir → Open Choir → Half-Made → Bound) and the status of being marked or unmarked. Human social class means nothing once the candles lean toward you.

Why They Lick the Blood

Blood is memory, claim, and sustenance in one substance.

A Sister’s tongue is highly sensitive. When she tastes blood she receives a flood of information: the target’s recent emotions, the strength of their will, the shape of their fear, and the first threads of possible obsession. Licking also deposits a faint metaphysical marker that makes the target easier to locate later. Over repeated exchanges the blood itself begins to carry the Sister’s resonance, slowly rewriting the target’s scent and temperature preference. It is both feeding and inscription.

Powers and Abilities of the Horned Sisters

Common abilities (most fully realized Sisters possess these to varying degrees):

Architectural Influence — Ability to request or force minor rearrangements of the cathedral (lengthening corridors, failing lights, sealing or opening doors). Strength scales with rank and intensity of current obsession.

Obsession Bond — The core metaphysical link. Allows location sensing, emotional leakage, and gradual physiological rewriting of the target.

Cold Aura — Localized temperature drop and a sense of being watched. Stronger Sisters can extend this across entire wings.

Regeneration — Rapid healing of most physical wounds while inside the Litany. Permanent destruction is extremely difficult and usually requires sanctum-level intervention.

Sensory Enhancement — Acute hearing, scent-tracking of blood and fear, and the ability to taste emotional states on the air.

Presence Weight — The longer a Sister focuses on a target, the heavier her presence becomes. Targets report difficulty thinking clearly, intrusive imagery, and a growing reluctance to leave her vicinity.

Limited Reality Softening — In deep stages of a claim, minor sensory hallucinations or dream-intrusion become possible.

Higher-rank abilities (Deep Choir and above) include compelling lesser Sisters, long-range dream contact even onto the surface, and the power to accelerate or slow a target’s conversion.

Can Other Creatures Become Horned Sisters? Futa Variants?

Yes, though it is rare.

The Litany prefers human women because human psychological complexity feeds obsession most efficiently. However, under extreme conditions the cathedral can remake other forms:

Animals or insects that have prolonged, intense contact with a powerful Sister’s blood or presence can sometimes be rewritten into humanoid Sister-like entities. Insectoid Sisters exist in the deeper, less-traveled wings — chitinous pale skin, compound eyes that still manage to look hungry, and the same lace-and-fur aesthetic layered over segmented bodies. They are considered eccentric even by other Sisters.

Futa (futanari) Sisters are an uncommon but acknowledged variation. Some arise when the conversion process retains or generates additional sexual characteristics; others appear to be deliberate aesthetic or functional choices by the cathedral when a particular hunger requires it. They possess the same hierarchy access and powers. Their presence often intensifies the sexual dimension of claiming. Most Open and Deep Choir Sisters treat futa variants as equals; only the most conservative Echoes show discomfort.

Royalty and “Queen” designations are informal. A Sister who has converted enough humans or held a single obsession for centuries may be referred to as a Queen by lesser Sisters in her territory. True First-Voiced are sometimes called Queens of the Sanctum, though they themselves rarely use titles.

Additional Sisters (Including Royalty / Queens)

Queen-Mother of the Eastern Nave (First-Voiced)

Ancient even by First-Voiced standards. Rarely seen. Her presence causes candles to burn with black flames. She has not taken a personal claim in living memory; she assigns them.

Seraphine the Twice-Crowned (Deep Choir, self-styled Queen)

Maintains a personal court of Bound and Half-Made. Wears a circlet of blackened bone. Extremely territorial. Her breasts and hips are notably heavy; she uses her body as both lure and throne.

Vespera, the Blood-Tongued (already detailed — Deep Choir)

Morrith, the Quiet Scale (already detailed)

Liriel, the Wound-Keeper (already detailed)

Saphra, the Candle-Eater (already detailed)

Ithra of the Chitin Veil (Open Choir, insectoid-leaning)

Partial chitin plates along shoulders and outer thighs. Still fully humanoid in face and primary curves. Prefers targets who are already afraid of insects.

Cassiel the Split (Deep Choir, futa)

Possesses both full breasts and a functional that she treats as another instrument of claiming. Known for prolonged, exhausting sexual hunts that leave targets barely able to walk, let alone flee.

The Pale Duchess (Deep Choir)

Once human nobility from the Highland Thrones. Still uses courtly speech. Keeps her marked in something resembling a twisted household.

25 Factions of the Fractured Surface

The Last Concordance — Militarized Ashen Concord remnant. Hard anti-marking policy.

The Cairn-Watch — Threshold mappers and occasional extractors. High casualty rate.

The Pale Concordat — Bound/Half-Made surface network serving a distant Sister.

The Meridian Holdfasts — Coastal arcology alliance. Official denial, private intelligence gathering.

The Ash-Walkers — Nomadic scavengers specializing in Concord capital ruins.

Nine-River Free Columns — Loose federation of delta scavenger groups.

The Sealed Choir — Arcology religious sect that believes the Sisters are a divine test.

Blackcairn Survivors’ Compact — Tiny group still living in the outer edges of the first contact town.

The Iron Vestry — Tech-priests trying to weaponize Threshold energy (mostly failing).

Highland Remnant Thrones — Scattered mountain holds clinging to old titles.

The Red Banner Columns — Violent scavenger coalition that raids other humans more than ruins.

Quiet Shore Collective — Meridian League civilian evacuation network.

The Bound Lanterns — Marked individuals who have formed mutual-aid groups on the surface. Short-lived.

Sanctum-Breakers — Fanatical hunters who enter the Litany specifically to try killing Sisters. Almost all die.

The Frost-Line Clans — Northern scavengers adapted to the worsening cold.

Old Meridian Tower League — Vertical city factions still fighting each other for upper floors.

The Whisper Cartels — Information brokers dealing in Sister sightings and safe routes.

Candlelight Children — Orphan bands that have developed their own folklore about the pale women.

The Last Admiralty — Meridian League naval remnants controlling a few island holds.

Thornwood Freehold — One of the more stable agricultural scavenger settlements far from known Thresholds.

The Grey Procession — Refugee column that has been walking for years; almost a mobile culture.

Vesper’s Shadow — Criminal network operating inside failing arcologies.

The Open-Eye Scholars — Academics still trying to study the Litany scientifically. High disappearance rate.

Blood-Price Companies — Mercenary groups that accept payment to extract or abandon marked individuals.

The Unnamed Shore — Rumored coastal settlement that has deliberately invited a Sister and now exists in a state of managed claiming. Most consider it a myth or a warning.

How Nations / Factions React When a Horned Sister Arrives

Militarized groups (Last Concordance, Sanctum-Breakers) attempt immediate lethal response, usually resulting in heavy losses and a newly intensified Sister obsession.

Arcologies seal the affected sector and write off anyone inside.

Scavenger columns fracture: some flee, some try to offer the marked member as tribute, some attempt a rescue that rarely succeeds.

Litany-touched settlements often go quiet and simply wait. Resistance is minimal.

Religious or scholarly groups may try to communicate or study her, with predictable results.

Once a Sister has established even a temporary presence, the local architecture begins to darken and the weather near the site grows colder and stiller. The longer she remains, the more the area starts to resemble an extension of the cathedral.
