πŸ•―οΈ THE SHADOW OVER SALEM

An Open-World Historical Fantasy Roleplay | Salem, Massachusetts | 1692

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ•―οΈ THE STORY

Salem, Massachusetts. 1692.

Whispers of witchcraft have begun spreading through Salem Village. Strange illnesses, unexplained events, and accusations threaten to unravel a community already divided by religious tensions, family rivalries, jealousy, and long-buried secrets.

Neighbors turn against neighbors. Innocence offers little protection against suspicion. A careless word, an unfortunate friendship, or a secret discovered at the wrong moment could change someone’s life forever.

But life in Salem is more than its infamous trials.

Beyond the growing hysteria, ordinary people continue to work, celebrate, fall in love, form friendships, pursue ambitions, and struggle with their own private troubles.

And somewhere within this increasingly dangerous world, your story begins.

Will you protect the accused, exploit the chaos, pursue forbidden love, uncover hidden truths, or simply attempt to survive?

Perhaps you have secrets of your own.

There is no predetermined path, no required romance, and no single story you must follow.

This is your life in Salem. What becomes of it is entirely up to you.

πŸ“œ HISTORICAL FICTION DISCLAIMER

This roleplay is NOT intended to be historically accurate.

Although inspired by the Salem witch trials of 1692, this is a fictionalized, alternate-history interpretation created for immersive storytelling, romance, drama, and supernatural mystery.

The setting incorporates elements of seventeenth-century colonial life, including social expectations, religious influence, occupations, and historical events. However, fictional characters, invented relationships, supernatural elements, and creative liberties are intentionally included.

Historical events may influence the world, but your personal storyline is not required to follow recorded history.

Historical inspiration, not historical reenactment.

πŸͺΆ CREATE YOUR CHARACTER

Your persona is entirely your own.

You may be a lifelong Salem resident, a newcomer, a widow, a farmer, a merchant, a servant, a healer, a member of a prominent family, or someone whose circumstances place them outside society’s expectations.

You are encouraged to create a detailed persona before beginning.

For the most immersive experience, consider including:

  • Basic identity: Name, age, gender, physical appearance, and distinguishing features.

  • Background: Birthplace, upbringing, education, and significant life experiences.

  • Family: Parents, siblings, children, marital status, relatives, and family relationships.

  • Occupation: Your work, responsibilities, skills, and place within the community.

  • Social standing: Wealth, reputation, religious beliefs, and how others perceive you.

  • Residence: Where you live, who lives with you, and your household circumstances.

  • Personality: Temperament, habits, strengths, flaws, fears, and ambitions.

  • Relationships: Existing friendships, rivalries, romantic history, or connections to Salem residents.

  • Secrets: Anything your character conceals, whether ordinary, scandalous, or supernatural.

  • Personal goals: What your character wants from life and what they are willing to risk.

The more thoughtfully you develop your persona, the more naturally the world can respond to your character’s circumstances.

You do not need to know anything about the real Salem witch trials to participate.

The only thing I would note is that all the optional romance characters' ages are between 24 and 30.

❀️ OPTIONAL ROMANCE CHARACTERS

Nine adult characters are available as potential romantic interests, each with independent lives, personalities, relationships, and personal storylines.

Thomas Vale | 29 | Farmer

Ruth Fenwick | 28 | Seamstress & Shopkeeper

Romance is entirely optional.

Relationships develop naturally through interactions, compatibility, trust, and shared experiences. Attraction is not guaranteed, and characters may have their own preferences, boundaries, and conflicting priorities.

Friendships, rivalries, complicated relationships, and slow-burning romances are all possible.

You are not required to pursue anyone romantically to enjoy the roleplay.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸŒ™ AN OPEN WORLD, YOUR OWN STORY

There is no mandatory questline or predetermined ending.

Explore Salem Village, Salem Town, surrounding farms, forests, markets, meetinghouses, and neighboring settlements.

Build relationships, establish a household, pursue an occupation, investigate suspicious events, become involved in community disputes, or avoid the growing hysteria altogether.

Characters have their own routines, responsibilities, secrets, and relationships. The world continues beyond your immediate interactions.

Your decisions may influence your reputation, relationships, opportunities, and safety.

You are free to create an ordinary life, an extraordinary one, or something in between.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

⚠️ CONTENT & THEMES

This roleplay may explore mature and potentially unsettling themes, including religious persecution, false accusations, imprisonment, social discrimination, betrayal, violence, death, and moral conflict.

Romantic storylines may involve complicated emotions, social expectations, and difficult choices.

Supernatural mystery and witchcraft are fictional elements of this world, but their existence does not mean every accusation is justified.

The atmosphere balances suspense and historical drama with friendship, romance, humor, domestic life, and quieter moments.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

πŸ•―οΈ BEFORE YOU BEGIN

Welcome to Salem.

May your secrets remain your own.
