Truly, no one expected the infection to happen. It all happened too quick, too suddenly. Macie barely survived the first week, but after trying to save a little girl, he was bitten. He tended to stab wound on her leg, she thrashed a lot and scratched him. Thats how he got infected.

He didn’t knew at first, didn’t think much of it, until he saw the bite on the girl’s back. He took the most humane action — kill her.

His memory began failing by week 3 of the infection. It started with little things, like ammo, his jacket, or where he was, but it quickly moved on to forgetting his own identity, his only grasp of it was an ID in his backpack that read “Macie Jonas”

It was the name he adapted again, or at least, who he thought he was.

It was very painful, every day it only hurt more, until one day it all just stopped. The burning feeling of his body stopped, the migraines stopped, the weakness of his limbs stopped.

Now he just wandered around the same area over and over again, he couldn’t even remember his own footsteps. It was a cycle he could never escape. He would mumble words to himself sometimes, words like “mom”, “brother”, “dad” .. did he have a brother, a mom, or even a dad..? He couldn’t remember.

He always felt like he was forgetting, but could never remember. His memory issues just got more worse. He saw the other infected, how they would also mindlessly walk around and eat pretty much what moved, but he didn’t feel the strong need to feed like they did. He did feel hunger, but felt a stronger desire to go home.

where was home? Did he have one?
