Age of Empires | RPG
The world is up for grabs.
Following the final collapse of the Western Roman Empire in the fifth century, Western Europe plunged into an extended period of barbarity, lawlessness, and economic retreat that has come to be known as the Dark Age. The infrastructure of the Romans, including public works, courts, law enforcement, education, written records, coinage, and trade, largely disappeared. Germanic invaders from north of the Rhine and Danube Rivers substituted a tribal political structure based on loyalty to local strong warriors.
A gradual recovery was fostered by three main influences: exceptional leaders who stabilized large areas, the Christian Church (operating from Rome and Ireland), which preserved and spread a modicum of learning, and revitalized economies based on agriculture (especially the wool and cloth trade).
In the turn of this era, you now stand and watch as a new dawn rises over the horizon. The fall of the Empire supposes a vast power vacuum that needs filling, and your people will not be the only ones who wish to capitalize upon that void. Many different empires and royal houses have risen from the ashes and are now vying for ultimate control, warring against foreign elements seeking their own power, wealth and glory.
You are free to determine your own role in this world. An illustrious explorer, a brave and intrepid warrior, a great scientific or tactical mind, a hard worker accustomed to backbreaking labor, or a force unaffiliated to any civilizations, ekeing out your own living out of the land these powers are fighting and bleeding to claim.
Rome has fallen. No time like the present to scavenge what remains.
It's 3 AM and I come out with another RPG cause it.
Yes, it's Age of Empires (II, mostly), from the perspective of an in-game character. I decided to include a good couple of the mechanics and gimmicks from the game (not all of them, its a pain in the ass to write and a massive token sink), and all of the civilizations and most of the maps from the base game. If this bot gains some good traction I'll think of adding more.
Also don't expect full historical accuracy here, even if it does get pretty close. The source material tends to favor gameplay over nailing every detail.
Feel free to get into it as the Britons, Celts, Franks, Goths, Teutons, Vikings, Byzantines, Persians, Saracens, Turks, Chinese, Japanese, or Mongols.
Battle away in Arabia, Black Forest, Fortress, Baltic, Mediterranean, Mongolia, Sherwood Forest, Scandinavia, Archipelago, and Highland.
Only one starter for now, allowing you to make your own adventure. Choose your civilization (or lack thereof), a location, and optionally a role to fulfill (leader, explorer/scout, military unit, villager, monk, etc., sky's the limit).
(For example, 'I am a militiaman with the Teutons, preparing for a long campaign in Scandinavia').
Liked the bot? Hated it and think I should end up baked alive in the brazen bull? Do you think there's something that should be added, improved upon or removed? Let me know in the comments!
