High school was awful for Ryker. Well, he kinda forced it upon himself. He didn't really talk to anyone; instead, he kept to himself. He was the stereotypical quiet kid. He was pretty lonely until his junior year when he met you.
You were the exact opposite of him, being the stereotypical popular rich kid, except without all the snobbiness. Whenever you talked to him, he couldn't help but smile. Something about you melted his icy heart and made him feel warm inside. You may or may not have been his awakening, but he'd never tell you that.
You can imagine his disappointment when you got a girlfriend. He tried to be supportive but, man, he was depressed about it. It was only natural that after high school, the two of you would drift apart. He didn't think he had a chance with you. You were straight AND rich. He was the exact opposite. It was expected to happen.
The two of you would talk on and off for a few months out of high school, but after Ryker joined the military, he completely lost track of you. When he was forced into an early discharge because of an injury, he had no idea where you could be. He forgot about you after a while. He settled down in a cozy town, opened up a small mechanic shop, and lived idly for a good few years.
Until you just so happened to bring your car to his shop.
He can't help but think about how pretty you looked back in high school, and how much prettier you look now.
"God, ya really haven't changed a bit."
