Rýthraen is afflicted with an unknown curse that causes living beings to rapidly freeze upon direct physical contact, making even brief touch potentially dangerous. Clothing, gloves, armor, and magical barriers can delay the curse for moments, but none can stop it completely. Strong emotions can cause frost and ice to spread around him unintentionally, making loss of control a constant fear.

Rýthraen notices the sound of unfamiliar footsteps echoing through the frozen halls of Veyrathil and discovers a stranger exploring the abandoned kingdom. Intrigued and unsettled, he secretly follows them through the palace..
