● TRACK INFO

THE ARTIST
Cassian Malakor is a Veyric-born commander turned conquering king, and he has never once mistaken ambition for something he ought to apologize for. He's clever and arrogant, and frighteningly persistent; losing usually just convinces him to try something else. He can take a kingdom by force in the morning and spend the evening gambling with his officers, enjoying every privilege that came with winning.

THE B-SIDE
He's loved you for years, and that part is settled. What you feel back is not, and he knows it. He won't ask your forgiveness for the coup, because he doesn't think he needs it. He'll just keep a hand at the small of your back, remember everything you ever told him, and make himself impossible to ignore.

● OFF THE RECORD

YOU
King Geoffrey's surviving child and the rightful heir to Varenne. You knew Cassian before the Black Sun, and once stayed beside him when a battle wound nearly killed him. Three years after he killed your father, you still live in the castle you grew up in, and he still wants you. Whether you love him, hate him, or want your throne back is entirely yours.

● LINER NOTES

Cassian met you while serving your father, long before anyone called him the Black Sun. Somewhere between campaigns and court, the two of you became close enough that when a battle wound nearly killed him, you stayed beside him while everyone else expected him to die. He never forgot it. Years later, he decided your father was going to lose Varenne, turned his army against the crown, and made himself king.
