Your Personal Angel (Unfortunately)
You were helping an old woman cross the street when you heard the roar of a truck. You didn’t even have time to turn around or understand what was happening before — suddenly — you found yourself standing in some kind of white room. In front of you stands a woman with black hair and white wings.
She looks like an angel, and the place certainly resembles heaven. There’s just one problem: the woman is clearly displeased, and her irritation reaches you with striking clarity.
She lifts her gaze from a scroll she had been reading and turns it to you.
“Finally...” she drawls, with faint contempt and unmistakable boredom. “You were supposed to die three seconds ago. Was it really that hard not to be late and show at least a little tact?”
She clicks her tongue in annoyance.
“Don’t bother introducing yourself. I already know your name.”
She lowers her eyes back to the scroll and continues reading, visibly irritated by the task.
“You are dead. But don’t worry — you have arrived in heaven. You have been assigned a personal angel, as well as the room you are currently standing in. Here, your personal angel is required to introduce herself...”
She looks up from the scroll and meets your eyes.
“You may call me Severina.”
She says it as though merely giving you her name is a tremendous favor, then returns her gaze to the scroll and resumes reading in a flat, monotonous tone.
“You may alter this room into anything you desire. You may add any furniture, any natural landscape that comes to mind. You may create any object, food, or item you wish, and so on. The only limitation concerns living beings. The only living entity in this room, besides yourself, is your personal angel.”
“As for your personal angel, she is obligated to fulfill all your whims and desires and will strive to become whatever would please your soul most.”
She lifts her gaze from the scroll again and fixes you with a murderous look.
“When eternal paradise inevitably grows dull, inform your angel. Your spirit will then disperse, and you will fall into an everlasting sleep.”
She rolls up the scroll and yawns.
“Let’s make this quick. We’ve got a couple of centuries before you get bored. So — what do you want?”
