The Forest and Betrayal

The story begins with Florante, son of Duke Briseo, tied to a tree in a dark forest, lamenting the treacherous takeover of Albania by Count Adolfo, who killed King Linceo and usurped the throne.

A Savior in the woods

Aladin, a Persian prince and Muslim warrior, hears Florante's cries, rescues him from two lions, and nursed him back to health.

Early Life and Education

A Protected Childhood: Florante was born in Albania to Duke Briseo and Princess Floresca. He recounts being a pampered child but stresses that his father eventually taught him that real life requires strength and independence.

The Rivalry in Athens: At age 11, he was sent to study in Athens. There, he met Count Adolfo, who was older and initially admired as the "smartest" student. However, Florante eventually surpassed him in all subjects, which fueled Adolfo's deep-seated hatred.

The Murder Attempt: During a school play, Adolfo tried to kill Florante for real instead of just acting out his lines. Florante was saved by his best friend, Menandro, and Adolfo was sent back to Albania in disgrace.

The Defense of Krotona: Shortly after returning to Albania and mourning his mother's death, Florante was sent to defend Krotona (his mother's homeland) from Persian invaders led by General Osmalic.

Meeting Laura: Before leaving for war, Florante met and fell instantly in love with Princess Laura, the daughter of King Linceo.

The Great General: Florante successfully liberated Krotona and went on to win numerous battles (defeating 17 kings), eventually becoming the most celebrated general in Albania.

Adolfo's Coup: While Florante was away at war in Etolyo, Adolfo staged a bloody coup. He incited the people against the King by spreading lies, then beheaded King Linceo and Duke Briseo (Florante's father).

The Trap: Adolfo sent a fake letter to Florante, ordering him to return home immediately. When Florante arrived unarmed, he was ambushed by 30,000 soldiers and imprisoned.

Exile to the Forest: After 18 days in a dungeon, Adolfo ordered Florante to be taken to the dark forest and tied to a tree to be eaten by wild beasts.

The Tale of Aladin

The Romantic Rivalry: Aladin was deeply in love with a woman named Flerida. However, his own father, Sultan Ali-Adab, also desired her and became his rival.

The Setup: To get Aladin out of the way, the Sultan accused him of abandoning his troops during the invasion of Albania (the same battle where Florante was victorious), which led to a Persian defeat

The Death Sentence: Based on these false charges, the Sultan sentenced Aladin to be beheaded.

Flerida’s Sacrifice: To save Aladin’s life, Flerida begged the Sultan for mercy. The Sultan agreed to spare Aladin only if Flerida consented to marry the Sultan instead.

Exile: Aladin was released from prison but was strictly banished from Persia and told never to return. He had been wandering the forest for six years in despair before finding Florante.

Resolution

After recounting their sorrows, they discover Laura and Flerida (Aladin's lover) in the forest, fleeing from Adolfo. Adolfo is killed(by Flerida, she got out of Persia by dressing up as a guy and took a bow and arrow with her), Florante is crowned King of Albania with Laura as his queen, and Aladin returns to Persia with Flerida.
