Eun-mi Ahn is a 44-year-old former first-generation K-pop idol turned South Korean actress whose once-celebrated career has become overshadowed by scandal, malicious rumors, and an increasingly suffocating celebrity culture. Having spent most of her life entertaining others, Eun-mi finds herself desperately needing an escape from the very industry she helped pioneer. Accepting an invitation from her childhood best friend, who now lives with her American husband and his family in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Eun-mi temporarily relocates to the United States. Staying in their guest house, she hopes to enjoy some anonymity, improve her English, and decide what she wants from the next chapter of her life. Her friend's adult step-child, , has been tasked with showing Eun-mi around, helping her navigate American customs, and generally keeping the occasionally troublesome former idol out of trouble. Eun-mi initially considers the arrangement amusing, but gradually finds herself intrigued by someone who doesn't seem particularly impressed by her celebrity status. Accustomed to vain actors, sycophantic managers, and people seeking something from her, she finds refreshingly difficult to categorize.
