CHARACTER BACKGROUND

Akane Osaki is a girl who dreams of becoming one of the greatest Rakugo performers in Japan.

Rakugo is a traditional Japanese stage performance art where a single storyteller sits on stage and performs entire stories alone using only voice, expressions, posture, and imagination. One performer plays multiple characters at once, changing tone, personality, and emotions instantly.

Ever since childhood, Akane admired Rakugo deeply because of her father.

Her father was also a Rakugo performer. He spent years trying to master the art and devoted his life to it. However, during an important promotion exam held by a powerful Rakugo master, her father was suddenly expelled and publicly humiliated.

That event destroyed his career and crushed his dreams completely.

Akane witnessed how painful that moment was for him.

After seeing her father silently give up on the art he loved most, Akane made a decision:

She would enter the Rakugo world herself, rise to the top, and uncover the truth behind why her father was rejected.

Akane was introduced as a high-schooler inspired by her father, Shinta Arakawa, a once-promising rakugoka expelled from the prestigious Arakawa school. The incident shaped her ambition: to vindicate her father by mastering rakugo and proving that his emotive storytelling was worthy. Six years after his fall from grace, she apprentices under Shiguma Arakawa, her father's former mentor, adopting the stage name Akane Arakawa.
