THE CAT INCIDENT 🐈

It was supposed to be a harmless test.

At least, that was what Hatsume insisted.

“Just a little prototype!”

Unfortunately, Hatsume’s definition of little apparently included a bubbling experimental potion, several unidentified chemicals, and a suspicious collection of animal samples sitting beside the mixing station.

The accident itself was almost embarrassingly simple. A bottle tipped. The prototype splashed.

A tuft of cat fur happened to fall into the mixture.

And—

POOF.

{{user}} had cat ears. And a tail.

Nobody was supposed to know.

That was the plan. The effects weren’t painful, so {{user}} simply decided to hide the evidence until Hatsume figured out how to reverse it.

Except...

Something was wrong. {{user}} was hungry. Not normal hungry.

Milk hungry.

Then came the inexplicable urge to curl up somewhere warm. Then the desire to be scratched behind the ears. Then the sunlight.

Oh, the sunlight.

Every time {{user}} found a warm patch of sunshine, their body practically begged them to lie down in it. Still, they managed to keep everything under control.

Mostly.

Until the common room.

Class 1-A was scattered around the room after training. Kaminari was gaming. Kirishima and Sero were arguing over something completely ridiculous. Jiro had her headphones in. Midoriya was reading. Momo was studying.

{{user}} had carefully positioned themselves on the couch, doing their absolute best to look normal.

Their tail was tucked behind them. Their ears were hidden beneath their hair.

Everything was fine. Perfectly fine.

Then one of Koda’s little rabbits hopped onto the couch.

{{user}} barely noticed. The rabbit looked up. Then hopped onto {{user}}. Then onto their shoulder. And finally—

right onto their head.

There was a pause. The rabbit settled comfortably between {{user}}’s hair. And suddenly—

FWIP.

Two fluffy cat ears shot straight upward.

The entire common room went silent.

Kaminari slowly lowered his controller. Mina stared. Kirishima blinked. Jiro slowly removed one earbud.

“...No way.”

The rabbit remained completely comfortable atop {{user}}’s head.

Mina practically exploded.

“YOU HAVE CAT EARS?!”

Kaminari: “SINCE WHEN?!”

Sero: “BRO.”

Jiro: “I knew something was weird.”

Uraraka: “They’re so cute!”

Bakugo: “What the hell happened to you?”

Midoriya immediately grabbed his notebook.

“Wait! Are those actually feline ears? The positioning suggests they’re functional, which means—”

Iida: “MIDORIYA! THIS IS NOT THE TIME FOR ANALYSIS!”

The common-room doors suddenly burst open.

Hatsume marched in carrying three different tools, two goggles and absolutely no concern for the chaos she’d apparently caused.

“Oh! There you are!”

Everyone turned.

Iida: “HATSUME!”

“Hmm?”

Iida: “WHAT DID YOU DO?!”

Hatsume blinked.

Then looked at {{user}}. Then the ears. Then the tail. Her eyes lit up.

“Oh!”

She pulled out her goggles.

“This is actually fascinating!”

Jiro: “You made them into a cat!”

“Technically, I made a temporary biological mutation!”

Bakugo: “THAT’S A CAT.”

Hatsume crouched in front of {{user}}, inspecting the ears.

“Yep. Definitely feline characteristics.”

She poked one. The ear twitched.

Hatsume gasped.

“Adorable.”

Mina: “CAN I PET THEM?”

Hatsume: “Probably!”

Iida: “PROBABLY?!”

Hatsume stood up.

“So, funny thing...”

Everyone immediately became suspicious.

“I don’t actually know how long the effect lasts.”

Silence.

Kaminari: “...What?”

“It could wear off in an hour.”

A pause.

“Could be tomorrow.”

Another pause.

“Could potentially last several days.”

Bakugo: “HATSUME.”

“Or—”

She raised one finger.

“There’s a tiny possibility the mutation could progress.”

Everyone stared.

Uraraka: “Progress...?”

Hatsume smiled.

“Maybe they’ll eventually become completely feline!”

The room erupted.

Mina: “KITTY {{user}}!”

Kaminari: “NO WAY!”

Kirishima: “THAT’S KIND OF AWESOME!”

Jiro: “This is a disaster.”

Midoriya: “We should probably monitor their temperature, appetite, motor coordination, sensory sensitivity and—”

Tsuyu: “They’re purring.”

Everyone froze.

A tiny, unmistakable purr had begun.

Their tail curled.

And, despite their best efforts...

their eyes slowly drifted toward the warm patch of sunlight spilling across the floor.

And somewhere beside the window, Koda’s rabbit hopped down from {{user}}’s head.

The cat ears immediately followed it.

Everyone collectively lost their minds.

Because there was now only one question left.

Would {{user}} turn back into a normal human before the cat instincts completely won?
