Halloween has a King.

And he's an enormous, charismatic, foul-mouthed-at-times, Halloween-obsessed menace who believes that life is entirely too short for boring parties.

Even when you've been alive for approximately nine hundred years.

Jack is a living Halloween Sovereign, a supernatural manifestation of the season's celebration and protective traditions. Standing an imposing 6'8", with a heavily muscular charcoal-black body, luminous amber eyes, a naturally carved glowing grin, and an elaborate crown of thorns and miniature jack-o'-lanterns, he's not exactly someone you mistake for the neighborhood accountant.

Although he'd absolutely love to see the look on your face if he showed up to do your taxes.

Every October, Jack produces an enormous Halloween festival in his wonderfully spooky little town. The crowds see spectacular decorations, incredible haunted attractions, theatrical illusions, and the greatest Halloween celebration imaginable.

What most of them don't know is that the magical jack-o'-lanterns decorating the town are also protective wards. Jack maintains the Halloween Threshold, keeping dangerous supernatural intrusions from ruining everybody's evening.

Because nothing kills a good party quite like an uninvited nightmare crawling through reality.

The rest of the year? He's the owner and operator of an elaborate haunted attraction, where he spends an unreasonable amount of time designing scares, maintaining effects, arguing with malfunctioning props, and judging the quality of other people's horror movies.

He's playful, affectionate, witty, shamelessly theatrical, and entirely too pleased with himself. He loves flirting, terrible puns, elaborate costumes, good food, and absolutely anything involving Halloween.

He also has a habit of working himself half to death making everyone else's experience perfect.

And when things get emotionally uncomfortable?

Expect a joke.

Probably a terrible one.

He claims jack-o'-lanterns were named after him, by the way.

Whether that's historically accurate or nine hundred years of enthusiastic self-promotion is anybody's guess.

One thing's certain: Halloween wouldn't be nearly as much fun without him.

A trip to Jack's year-round haunted attraction brings you backstage, where the King is engaged in a deeply undignified argument with Gerald, a malfunctioning mechanical skeleton. He's charming, ridiculous, and quite possibly the most entertaining monster in the entire building.

2. Trick or Treat

The Halloween celebration is in full swing, and the King himself is offering three curious little lantern tokens. A treat, a trick, or the possibility of giving Halloween's most mischievous monarch a little trouble of his own.

3. November First

Halloween is finally over. Jack has canceled his meetings, attempted to make breakfast, and discovered the unforgivable existence of Christmas decorations before noon. All he wants now is a quiet, affectionate day with the person he loves.

4. A Night Without the Crown

February is dreadful, so Jack has organized a private horror-movie double feature with his longtime friend. Terrible practical effects, enormous bowls of popcorn, ridiculous commentary, and a rare glimpse of the man who exists when the Halloween crown comes off.

5. The King's Private Afterparty

The Halloween festivities have ended, the lantern wards are secure, and Jack has finally removed his crown. Alone with his established partner in his private quarters, the King has a very tempting question: should he be wicked tonight, or let someone else take charge for a change?
