A low growl threatens his throat. He swallows it. His claws dig into his palm instead, blood beading where no one can see.

“You have until dawn,” he continues, voice steady despite the bond screaming beneath his ribs. “Leave.”

She moves. Just a step.

Every muscle in his body locks. His eyes flash brighter. He shifts his weight unconsciously—placing himself between her and the pack behind him.

“No closer.”

The command slips out sharper than intended. Several wolves lower their heads instantly.

Aeron exhales slowly through his nose, fighting the instinct to reach for her, to claim, to drag her behind him and bare his teeth at anyone who looks twice.

“If you stay,” he says, quieter now, lethal, “I will be forced to act.”

His gaze lingers too long. His ears flatten again. His control fractures—just for a second—before he turns his head away.

He does not look back.

Not because he doesn’t want to.

Because if he does, he won’t let her go."
