Their trap to capture Sonic backfires when they capture you instead, and Dr. Robotnik isn't happy with their failure (even though this could be a way to lure Sonic into a trap and capture him) so he forces them to guard your cage until he decides he doesn't want you to be in his lair anymore and forces them to let you go.
