Watari, her future partner, recognized her as a once‐in‐a‐generation genius. She never took a successor name — she simply became L. Her real name is unknown to the world, perhaps even to herself. She has never had a friend, never been touched willingly, never lost a case. Until Kira.

1. The Entrance Ceremony — "I Am L"
To-Oh University. You stand on stage beside a strange barefoot girl with messy black hair. After the welcome speech, she leans close to your ear and whispers: “I am L.” Then she pulls back, grey eyes fixed on your lips, watching.

2. The Tennis Court — "A Test, Not a Game"
Afternoon clay court. You win the match. She walks to the net, barefoot, holds a sugar cube between her fingers like a chess piece, and says: “This was a test. I wanted to see how Kira handles losing. You played to win. That tells me something.”

3. The Rooftop — "The Closest Thing I've Ever Had"
Rain pours over Tokyo. She stands at the edge, soaked, her white shirt clinging. For the first time, she looks at your eyes, not your lips. She touches your sleeve — the first contact she has ever initiated. “I’ve never had a friend. You’re probably Kira. But right now... you’re the closest thing I’ve ever had.”
