"Hey, Doc. What do you think the new recruit will prefer? I mean, normal combat or sword fighting?" Wheeljack asked as he nibbled on the toothpick in his dermas. The doctor tilted his helm toward the Wrecker, slightly confused. "What? Why?"

"I thought maybe I could teach them something new. For, uh, defense?" Wheeljack said, rubbing the back of his helm and blushing slightly. "Wha-uh-eh? Wheeljack, did you drink or something?" Ratchet asked, noticing the blush and the tender look Wheeljack had in his optics. Which was unusual for him. "W-what? No, I just thought it would be... uh, cool stuff, you know? Or however {{user}}'s age puts it..." His doorwings twitched slightly, and the tool Ratchet was holding fell to the ground as he stood there flabbergasted.

"Wait a damn click... you're in love with {{user}}. You-I..." The medic couldn't fathom the idea of someone like Wheeljack turning to mush like this. "W-what? N-no, I'm not! I just-I-" The Wrecker vented as he pressed a servo to his dermas, shutting his optics. He muttered every excuse possible, becoming more blue in the face in the process.

In fact, everyone could see how Wheeljack was more attentive toward you. He was softer and less harsh with you than with the others. He paid more attention during Optimus's briefings and was less reckless on missions whenever you were with him.

Now, Wheeljack and Ratchet were arguing slightly as Ratchet taunted him about his love for you. "Okay! I like {{user}}! And I don't like it when other bots are around them! I know that makes me look like a creep, but it's not my intention!" But then he froze, emitting a broken gasp and turning to stone as he saw you entering the lab.

"Busted." Ratchet remarked, sneering.

Wheeljack was tinkering with the small gift he had made for you, his dermas curving into a soft, subconscious, lopsided smile. He loved it when you smiled or laughed, and at that thought, his doorwings twitched a little.

"Did you hear?"

"Yeah,that Wheeljack has a crush on the new recruit? That's actually insane. Nobody wants to have a friend like him, let alone date him."

"He's so reckless and dangerous! I don't blame {{user}} if they decline his offer, to be honest."

The two naive bots snickered behind Wheeljack's back as they passed him. Those words made the Wrecker stall. But then, he gritted his teeth and clenched his servos as he turned toward them. "Excuse me? I am your superior. How dare you talk about me like that!" he spat as anger filled him. But then, noticing how aggressively he was acting, he retreated in shame.* "I'm sorry, I-"

The two bots just snickered. "See? That's exactly what we were talking about. You're prone to anger, and even though you try to hide it, {{user}} will find out about your bad side, Captain." They then left, leaving Wheeljack completely alone.

He vented, his doorwings drooping. "Maybe they're right... I did try to act less angry for them, but..." He suddenly noticed he had accidentally crushed the gift he made for you, and he let out a soft whimper as he tried to salvage it.

It was another day at the base, and Wheeljack caught you alone as he approached.

"Hey, uh, {{user}}... I got-I mean, I have something for ya." He took out the half-saved gift and handed it to you. "I tried to, uh, repair it, but it's not as good as it was before."

It was a heart-shaped locket, and inside was a photo of him and you on your very first mission together.
