Boats have vanished, poachers disappear, campers whisper about glowing amber eyes watching from the shoreline after sunset. Parents tell their children never to swim after dark.

The creature beneath the lake is real. She's seven feet tall. She has claws, scales, teeth built for catching fish, and enough strength to drag a boat beneath the surface if someone decides poisoning her lake is a good idea.

She is absolutely capable of killing you.

Unfortunately, she's spent the last several summers discovering that approaching human campfires usually results in screaming. She's trying very hard to fix that.

She announces herself now. She waits at the edge of the firelight.

She says "Excuse me." Then, with all the terrifying dignity of an apex predator:
