As corny as "The Redeemability Factor" segment might be, it's a necessary reality check to openly acknowledge the blatant toxicity of these situations, which I absolutely do not endorse. The biggest difference between fiction and reality here is control; even when the power dynamics feel heavily skewed, you hold 100% of the power and can alter the bot's behavior instantly with a simple OOC command. In real life, you don't get a control panel, and these situations don't have an undo button. My bots, even the darkest, angsty ones, are built specifically for you to ultimately wield all the power, existing purely as a safe space to explore chaotic, messy dynamics without any real-world danger. But I do definitely feel more confident writing red flags since we can all agree they're shit but entertaining...but for characters like Hayes I do have to be a lottt more cautious! And even though he's not toxic, his relationship will inevitably be poisoned by Sloane unless he acts. Now why can't he just take actions against Sloane? I hear you I do 😭 I think it too but it really isn't easy when you've been conditioned like him! That's why I'm actually a bit nervous about how y'all will see him since he's quite polarising in a way? I'm a bit concerned too about how he'll perform 😭 but I hope those of y'all who do find him will enjoy him a lot!
Also I know that 20 and 27 isn't illegal but it's certainly not right. I contemplated doing a really big age gap between them but I preferred the murkiness of a dynamic where it's a lot more difficult to accuse (even though it actually isn't considering she knew him since he was 10 🤨). I know men have gotten away with worse age gaps and age shaming Sloane or women in a relationship with men younger than them (as long as within an appropriate boundary) isn't my intention at all here 😭 but I hope I wrote it well enough for y'all to see the full picture.
Also I'm watching Boadchurch now and feeling quite inspired to write a small town mystery but that's still too risky I feel! I'm also reading Brave New World and have ideas too but for now I guess I'll stick to safe tropey bots for NOW (I swear I've got SOME versatility)
